How did i not just kill my CPU!!!! - Page 3

I also struggle to believe that it got so hot. I hAVE NOTICED THE bios shutdown temp is 90, so it could be a little out, but still, thats 30 more than the theoretical max, and as has been mention, they become unstable and BSOD before they fry themselves, well so i thought. All bios setting were on stock as i reset everything after yesterdays DICE run. Maybe the extreme cold will counter the extreme heat ,

A few nights ago I noticed my P4 630 has gotten to hot, and it shut off. I figured it reached about the temps you guys are reading. i had it at a clock of 3.5GHz, but recently i've purchased a fan to put on the left side panel (after I cut a hole with the dremel) and it's kept it nice and cool at 3.7GHz. Well, i wouldnt say "nice and cool". its still hot. even when i put it at stock clocks it gets too hot. When I built it, I was stupid and bought a $6 cooler. (it sucks)
But at least i'm not getting it over 100C anymore. The most it goes currently is 85C. I'm soon to get a great cooler from a friend, and hopefully keep temps in 40C range. (i've noticed I get INSANE FPS when my CPU is cooler, maybe 60C)

EDIT:
Try Speedfan. it works great! tells you everything about whats going on. Temps, voltages, fanspeeds, even control the fanspeeds, and get the temps of the GPU.

I had my pump do the same thing once, but didn't run anything intensive so it didn't get crazy-hot. I think the water starts to circulate itself due to the large temperature delta between the rad and the block, that's the only way I can forsee the temperatures not rising until boiling the loop dry/blowing off hoses due to pressure if not open to atmosphere.

I have an Opteron that ran at 127ºC... I forgot to plug in the pump aswell.

The first time it happened, it was okay. The second time... One tube exploded (water boiled in the waterblock) and spilt water over my 8800GT... with the computer running.

Needless to say, I killed the poor gfx card

Lucky you that it didn't explode

The water does not start to circulate (much). With the pump on, the water molecules are activly transporting the heat. With the pump off, the heat still is being transferred through the water to the rad but it via mostly conduction.

It's a good thing water conducts heat better than air...
