Motherboard upgrade needed (maybe?)

Thread Starter
I recently upgraded my computer from:
CASE: Black no name
COOLING: No cooling
PSU: ISO PSU 450 Watts
MOTHERBOARD: M2A-VM / 690 chipset
CPU: Athelon 64 X2 2.2 Ghz. 4200+
RAM: 1 x 1gig stick 2 x 512 sticks DDR2 667mhz
GPU: Nvidia 7300GT
Writemaster DVD-ROM 16X
HD: Western Digital 80GB Hard drive (SATA)
OS: Windows XP pro SP 3

So I decide to upgrade it to this over the past 3 months:
CASE: Antec 300 case
COOLING: installed 2 x Silverstone blue LED AP-121 fans in the front (in addition to 2 fans in the case already)
PSU: Corsair VTX450 PSU that can actually run 450W consistently (The ISO system is net 210 W - MAX 450W)
CPUhenom X3 8450 CPU with arctic silver 5 and a Heat sink/fan from a Phenom II X4.
RAM: 4 Gb RAM 4 x 1GB (still 667 PC5300)
GPU: Zotac 240GT 1GB DDR3 128 bit
LG super-multi 24 X DVD-RW
HD: 1TB WD Caviar Green
OS: Windows XP pro SP 3

Okay, so my CPU choice wasn't great but I got it for 40 bucks. As I see it, my pinch point is my motherboard. I flashed the BIOS as it is an AM2 socket and the CPU is AM2+. the problem is that my HT will never go above 1000mhz (although I presently have it Oc'd to 1060Mhz?) I'm looking at a budget board - an M4A785-M. Any comments or concerns? I need a board that will survive another CPU upgrade. I NEED to play Black Ops... at the same time, I'd like to keep my RAM if possible. It's expensive to replace. Also, do you see an upgrade to Windows 7 (64 bit) to be of any value if I don't buy any more RAM?

Comments?

The M4A785-M is a great, solid board. I WOULD NOT try putting a 6 core on it, but all the Phenom II X4 chips will run+ overclock great on it.. Also, Black Ops is CPU intensive and gives my 1090T 40% CPU usage, so in theory, a Phenom II X3 would get about 80% CPU usage from it. It isn't very GPU stressful and a GT240 could run it fine. You will not run into issues using Windows 7 with your current system. .

Okay, I just bought the board. Traffic was insane. Sticker on the front says "core unlocker... are they just teasing? any chance I could unlock a faulty core on my Phenom X3 8450? Please direct me. I checked around the site but found no procedures. My motherboard instruction book is mum on the issue.

Yeah, the core unlocker feature is useful but I don't think it will do anything for that chip. Just a couple Athlons and the Phenom II X2/X3s can unlock, but it's only like a 60% chance(worked for me on my past CPU, Phenom II X2 555, got a quad core)
