GTX 570 – Occasional noise from card

I just got an EVGA Superclocked GTX 570 late last week. The card has been great so far, absolutely outstanding gaming performance. However, I have noticed a noise from the card on occasion. The nose sounds like “shhhhh…†like the sound you make when you are trying to tell someone to be quiet. It doesn’t happen all of the time, but it does happen a lot when there are 3D and 2D things on the screen at the same time.

For example when playing TES IV: Oblivion, if I hit “tab†to bring up the inventory system I will here the noise. Also, I can here the noise at the main menu in Crysis and Crysis Warhead. Sometimes, in game loading screens are accompanied by the noise too. I made a 3DMark06 run, and I would here the noise through the loading screens.

The noise doesn’t really concern me too much, as I know sometimes electrical components make noise when they are working. However, I just wanted to see if this is considered normal, and if it would be worth it to do anything about it.

Its usually attributed to a capacitor whine, which is fairly normal, though if it gets louder, I would get a replacement card.

I should add that it isn't all the time, only certain times. Using fraps, it ususally happens when the framerates jump up to extreme levels, such as during a loading screen or during a menu type interface. It doesn't happen during normal gameplay when rendering the 3D environment.

How loud is loud enough to be of a concern? Right now, I can here with my case on the floor and on the left side of my desk (probalby about 4ft from my head). It doesn't sound loud from my chair, but it am able to here it.

Its normal. When I turn on my Computer, I usually always hear a "Psshhht" sound. and then If I turn my music off during games. I can occasionally hear it, but its really random and far apart

Had the same problem with my 570 in Oblivion. Turn on Vsync and it will go away. It makes that sound because when you hit the inventory screen the GPU usage jumps to 100% and it puts out like a 1000 fps. Similar to the Starcraft 2 menu problem where the GPU will run at 100% even when its not needed outputting a crapload of frames.

Yeah, that's when I notice it. It only happens when my fps is at crazy high extreme number, eg 1000+ fps in menus and such. I'm not too concerned that it is a problem, because it doesn't happen during regular gaming and such. It just was something different that this card does that my previous cards did not do.
