Any news on affordable 2560x1600 monitors coming out?

I have always wanted to get a 30' 2560x1600p monitor for my rig but the $1000+ price tag is just to much for me. Does anyone have a clue when these type of monitors will hit the $600 and below mark? Any news of up coming cheaper monitors? Thanks

Monitors like this are designed for CAD use and therefore must use higher end components such as IPS to deliver proper performance. The amout of pixels requred to display 2560x1600 = 4,096,000 pixels vs 1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels. As you can see, almost twice as many pixels. LCD monitors have gone down in price exponentially over the last several years, and I expect them to continue to do so. However for the highest of performance, you will always pay a hefty premium.

Yeah I figured since 1080p monitors took a nose dive in prices I thought the 2560x1600p ones would eventually come down. To bad frown.gif

I dont thing 2560x1600 are going to get any better as i think they are going to be replaced by 2560x1440. Prices will not go down as there is nothing better. 1680x1050 used be be gaming resolution 2 years back, before that i think 1280*1024 and the increase from 1050p to 1080p is not as big as going 1600p or 1440p + they are ISP which are again much better and cost more to make.

I only know of one 2560x1440 monitor right now. Hopefully they can make them somewhat affordable. I feel like this would be the last piece to really complete my rig. My 24 inch is fine but I just keep hearing all the high rez guys talking about their monitors like they are going to marry them.

Its nice to know your getting more of your moneys worth with your cpu/gpu too. Playing games on a single screen in 2560x1600 is pretty damn sweet.

Do you play games in portrait mode? I thought eyefinity setups were designed to still have the center screen as the main focal point, while the other two screens were designed more with peripheral vision in mind.

How big is the difference between 2560x1600 and 2560x1440? If I could find a good deal on a U2711 I would probably get it if it is still worth it.

yea, I play in portrait, w/ my chair about 3 feet away from my screens

as much as I enjoy racing sims, I don't like having to turn my head when gaming...plus the extra vertical view is sooo very nice =D

16:9 vs 16:10, slightly more narrow as all 16:9 displays are
