Xp to Win 7 = 2KPPD drop

Thread Starter
I know it's not much PPD to speak of, but I think I messed up my set-up. I was having some weird errors with my XP machine (which I use to fold on an E6300 and 9800GTX+) so I decided to take the opportunity to install W7.

SMP client is working fine. The GPU client though is where I'm having probs.
I accidentally installed the console client and also entered into the advanced config which I hadn't done before for the GPU client. I think I set the memory usage too high (2048) but have no clue how to lower it. Anyway, I uninstalled it, installed the tray client and now, when I run it, it seems to be using too much RAM or CPU cycles, the machine becomes unusable, very slow and very laggy. I lowered the CPU usage in the advanced tab but it the machine still seems laggier than it was with XP with the GPU client running. I don't remember what the CPU usage was under XP, but I hadn't configured it, I just left it at default.

Under XP, the 9800GTX+ would earn about 6k PPD on mostly P11179/11177. Now it earns about 4K on the same projects...

What do you guys think is going on?

Windows 7 has more processes running in the background like aero that will cause a hit in ppd. You can turn it off and get some of your points back.

Make sure if you do turn it off to check that your clocks do not go back to 2d.

I actually turned Aero off already... I went System properties -> Performance -> Settings -> Adjust settings for best performance.

That applied the windows basic theme and shouldve turned off Aero... right?

Also, SP1 I believe has been applied.

So the fact that I set 2048 as the mem usage in the now uninstalled console client should have no impact on my numbers?

SP1?
Isn't that just all the updates in one plus that RemoteFX thing, not sure how it would increase PPD for the GPU.
