You don't HAVE to overclock your CPU, BUT you will probably see more performance gains as you increase your CPU overclock due to bottlenecking.

Basically the GPU is faster than the CPU. The faster you get the CPU (up to a point) the less you lose GPU performance over the CPU threshold.

PS: Get the mighty GTX570 and the world will kneel before you, seriously man... its far better than 480, dnt wanna go into details now, others have pointed em out already +better tesselation cores.
You have a nice 500W PSU. GPU Manufacturer PSU recommendations are sketchy because PSU manufacturer ratings across makers are sketchy. The only reason I would go with a bigger PSU right now is
1) If your PSU is older than your computer 2-3 years old.
2) You have been or plan to fold 24/7

All this advice can confuse a man...

I reckon best action to take is to upgrade your CPU, PSU RAM etc if you need it.. the 4850 can wait, then save anough and then have an awesome gaming pc, that 4850 can handle majorty of games, and oc it. up to you though dude.

because when you run a game, the cpu and gpu work together, the cpu has to process certain codes for your gpu, if the cpu isnt fast enough youll get FPS and screen lag and choppyness

aite i will probably overclock my cpu after your post =D , so what ill do its buy a Gtx 570 then buy a cooler for my cpu and overclock it 9 price will be equal to that gtx 480 ), then it will be better than a gtx 480 with no cpu overcloking due to no cpu cooler.
but now i ran into problem , i want a gtx 570 that have very good cooling solution, ex: twin froz, gigabyte wind force, msi cyclone etc, cuz i want to overclock my gtx 570 a little bit =/
