Thread Starter
Was wondering what GPU on the Nvidia Side compares with the ATi 4890.. I thought the GTX 260 did but I am sure the 4890 beats it...

The closest I would say is a stock GTX275 or a GTX460 768mb.

so is the 4890 better than a GTX 275 nad GTX 280 or no? because I see the GTX 275 and 280 and they run GDDR3. Would there be a performance disadvantage there vs the 4890. And since the prices of the GTX 275 and GTX 280 are higher than a 4890, I was just wondering, because if the bandwidth was bigger GDDR3 wouldn't matter.

*EDIT* I found a GTX 280 on ebay for $140 if its a bit better than a 4890 then ill grab that up.

275/280 are very close, and the 4890 is very close to both of them ... pretty much depends on the game and whether it 'favors' ATI or nV architecture. A GTX285 is a bit of an upgrade, but I wouldn't bother replacing a 4890 w/another DX10 card of such similar power.

Now, a 460 1MB card is only slightly faster than a 4890 as well, but at least it does DX11 ... plus it tends to do a noticeably better w/MIN fps, which is nice ... plus it has WAY more OC'ing headroom so it's top-end is going to be quite a bit of an improvement over a 4890. So that's the minimum card I'd consider 'upgrading' to if it was me.
