GTX 460 Bottlenecking

I'm going to go ahead and assume that my cpu is bottlenecking my GPU.
Would a Q6600 also be bottlenecking it?

Thanks.

A Q6600 would not bottleneck a single GTX 460.

At stock it could, depending on the game. Coming from a stock (2.4GHz) Q6600, games that aren't multi threaded would stutter/suffer fps dips.

So what would you suggest OCing it to? I know they can hit the 3ghz range, and if I get it up there it shouldn't bottleneck then, correct.

Technically speaking there is always going to be a bottleneck in any rig, really. It depends on what you're trying to play and at what res. The higher the res, the more work your 460 will see.

But yes a 3Ghz Q6600 should be able to hold its own for the most part.

Yes, going to a Core CPU (Core2duo, core2quad) would definitely help immensely. They're a different architecture and are able to process a whole helluva lot more than that Pentium D could ever hope to --even at stock speeds. Then once you OC, you'll get even more performance.

Hell an E8400 (dual core) would be leaps and bounds better than what you're currently running.

That would be a MASSIVE upgrade over a Pentium-D which is garbage. If you can get it to 3Ghz you'll be fine in pretty much anything. If you want more performance, just overclock more(If possible).

my Q6600 at 3.0GHz was a bottleneck in BC2 and Black Ops, at 1920x1080
