Thread Starter
I don't have a 1980 monitor yet.
plus this is just to tie me over until theres a sale on for the 2600k, then i plan on upgrading mobo/cpu/ram

i noticed a bit of lag with my GTX460 with my Q6600 @ 3.0ghz, just with Mafia II with enhanced PhysX and Crysis Warhead. Since being OC'd to 3.4, I havent had a stutter yet.

And on a side note, with Metro 2033 @ 1920x1080 I get a little bit of slowdown here and there. Playing at 1680x1050 its completely smooth with good FPS. This is at 3.4ghz. I havent tested, but I remember it running smoother with the quadro drivers vs the currently released WHQL drivers.

q6600 at 3.0GHz is a solid match for a gtx460. I mean, sure, you can create a measurable cpu-bottleneck on certain cpu-dependent games, esp. at a lower resolutions/IQ settings, but ... it's a good chip for pairing w/that card overall.

That mobo paired with a Q6600 isnt a very good combo for overclocking so i think 3ghz is a good goal for you.

Hell an E8400 (dual core) would be leaps and bounds better than what you're currently running.
The guy is running a Q6600, not a Pentium D.
