Wiring 2 fans to a Prolimtech MK-13 help..

Thread Starter
Please..

I've posted elsewhere about how it's apparently impossible to buy a new mini 4 pin plug to fit the small fan header on most graphics cards, so..

I've attached a photo of a 3 way 4 wire PWM fan splitter I've bought and have the following questions please:

1. Given that the signal wires are different to one plug and I only want to use two of the plugs, will this splitter work with only two fans connected, i.e. is it setup to works in series?

2. If it won't, will it work if I simply connect the spare plug's signal wires together.

3. If it will work, I'm guessing that I should definitely use the plug with 4 wires going to it or doesn't it matter?

4. The alternative is that I cut the 4 pin plug off another card and use that until I can find another plug, that being the case, is it ok to use a normal 3 wire splitter cable?

5. Why would Prolimatech clearly state in the instructions to connect the new fans to a fan head on the mainboard rather than the graphics card? Where's the logic in that...?

I'd be really interested to hear from anybody else that has used this cooler and find out how they wired their fans...

Thanks.

Well can you point me out to where you can buy a mini 4 pin PWM graphics card fans, I mean commercially available ?

There is your answer as to why Prolimatech said that.

So the best opinion I can offer is

1.do as they suggest and plug into the motherboard

2.buy that harness and power from the 12v rail and regulate from a PWM header.

3. Just get 3 pin fans and use a fan controller to control the fans.

they are the stock motherboard headers.

What he is after is this VV

I just found something that will work, provided you don't go stupid with fan Wattage. This device will convert the Mini 4 pin PWM to standard 4 pin fan header.

Ok, so if he wants more fans or wattage he needs this like the manufacturer suggests

Thanks Smash, this is exactly what I need but I just can't find anything like this in the UK... I'll have to have yet another Google session, it's just got to be out there somewhere.

I did thanks but I don't fancy waiting the 2 to 4 weeks it'll take to arrive from HK..

There's got to be one available over here somewhere. In the meantime, I may use the 4 pin splitter cable shown in my first post above and use an HDD LED mobo plug to feed the signal wires. The two fans I've got are relatively low draw:

Fair play, in that case I would order them and in the mean time just run your fans from the motherboard or from the 12v rail.
