Help Choosing a Hard Drive + RAID Question

Hey, looking for some input here. I currently have a 640GB WD Blue , which works fine but is also starting to fill up. I'm looking for a potential future drive (whenever I see a good sale, that is! ) and was wondering whats good these days. The WD blacks look really nice, but I also hear that they're excessively noisy, which is kind of a turn off for me. Looking at Samsung drive, but wondered if there's anything better out there.

Also, how much performance gain is there for setting up a RAID drive? I'll be using this as a storage drive (SSD has my OS and programs) and wondered if it was worth going RAID or sticking with one. Thanks!

blacks arent that noisy. go with the blacks. 5 year warranty. cant beat that. also im not a big fan of samsung f3's. yes they are fast in a drag race, but blacks are better in a windows 7 enviroment due to the 2 processors it has. also would make it better with mulithreading i suppose.

edit: if your storing important files, i wouldnt go raid. however if you buy the blacks i would go raid. caviar blacks are some of the most reliable hdd's there are.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1GB or Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB.

In RAID 0, with 2 of these drives you'll get some phenomenal transfer rates, comparable to SSD's.

For storage stick with a single drive, the extra speed is not needed and it makes it more likely to fail.

The f3 drives are great, particularly since they can be had for under $55 now

Okay, thanks for the input everyone. Still not sure which ones I'll go for, but I'll be keeping an eye out of prices anyways.
