Marvell SATA 6GB/s Controller problem

Thread Starter
Whenever I have a hard drive plugged into the controller and there is a lot of hard drive reading/writing, the controller will just fail. If the primary drive is plugged into it, the computer will just reboot itself. If I have the primary plugged into the Intel controller and a secondary plugged into the Marvell, the controller and hard drive will just disappear from Device Manager. I'm using driver version 1.0.00.1051 and BIOS version 0802 on my Sabertooth X58. According to this site, there are firmware updates for the controller itself, I believe they are community made since I cannot find any others besides this site and it seems the only way to update it is with a floppy. :|, I would be willing to try it if somebody could figure out how to do it with a flash drive. By the way the site is in French.

Here's the link to the thread on their forum, if you have Google Chrome it can auto translate it for you. http://www.station-drivers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9971#9971

According to the Asus driver download site

http://support.asus.com/download/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

The lastest released drivers for the Marvell controller are 1.0.0.1034

Where did you get 1.0.0.1051? If they came on the CD with your mother board they should be fine, although I would be curious as to why Asus never posted them on their driver download site.

For something like this I would get drivers directly from the manufacturer of the mother board and not off the net someplace.

According to Asus BIOS 802 is the latest release.

Since the Marvell site is terrible, I got them off that site up there^ since they post the most current drivers. ASUS seem to never update the drivers, even the Intel Chipset ones which you can get on the Intel site. So I only rely on the ASUS site for BIOS updates and never drivers unless under some crazy circumstance, they have never drivers than the other site does.

I have heard that sometimes the MB manufacturers modify the drivers for their motherboards, that is why you can find drivers on the net that have a later release then the drivers on the MB manufacturers site.

Who knows if there is any real difference, I certainly don't, you could ask on the Asus MB forums.

I did notice that for the R3E Asus has the 1036 and 1034 drivers, but for the Sabertooth they only list the 1034 drivers, I thought that was odd.

I have asked on the ASUS forums, the place is a ghost town, and the answers I did get, well they weren't even answers.

EDIT: but to answer your question, I have tried this with the drivers that came on the disk included with the mobo, the ones from the ASUS site, hell I even tried the "Standard AHCI" driver. All have the same problem which makes me think I have a bad controller.
