2600k too hot?

After much tweaking I've gotten this baby to run stable at 4.7ghz @ 1.37v (which is high imo). Running prime95 small fft is giving me temps in the low 80s. For 1.37v this seems a tad high. I'm using a Corsair a70 cooler inside a CM 690II case. I've reseated, repositioned, and reapplied thermal compound and it's changed the temps very little. Curously enough there's only a 3 or 4 degree difference between 1.37 and 1.45 load, with regards to my temps. At 1.45V it was reaching 85-87 and at 1.5 (5ghz) it was hitting 99-100. I'm tempted to exchange it out because of the heat issues. Thoughts guys?

I would invest in a better heatsink, possibly a Corsair H50 or H70. The temps you have now seem about right for your heatsink, voltage, and frequency.

It might also be your ambient temperature.

Hmmm

I hope you mean 80f not 80c. If 80c then yeah i'd back it down until you get sufficient cooling. I'd recommend a H50 or H70

Do you have other fans blowing air on the cooler? What are your ambients?

And could you kindly fill in your system specs

I vote for H70 or the XSPC Rasa water cooling kit. Temps max on prime95 are 69-71 with H70 after an hour or so.

Try a reseat. Ive been reading about people doing 5GHz on a Corsair H50 or H70.

What thermal paste did you use on your CPU?
