If I'm right this is his first build as well. First computer, not just WC. Save the guy some cash and send him down the air road.

A prolimatech or d-14/Silver Arrow if you have space would give some of the best stats for air and for the most part, very quiet

Take a look at Silverstone 90o Degree Change cases. They have some pretty dam good cooling 4-6C better than traditional cases on Air. You can also upgrade them for WC later.

The Raven series under $200, Fortress about $250, The TJ11 is also 90o Degree, but it's ~ $600 for the case by itself.

I'm a big fan of Lian Li (looks and performance). I have the A71F and I couldn't be happier. It works great as an air cooled case and when you decide you want to go the water cooled route you can buy the optional 120x2 top cover or 120x3 top cover depending if you go with a 240 or 360mm radiator.

They aren't cheap though.
