So, I was experimenting with my new OC on my XFX non-reference 5850 (970/1250 @ 1.22v) and decided to do this.
Here's a really simple graph on the impact of the side fan on GPU temperature during full 100% load in Furmark 1.8.
In this case, the Antec Tricool 120mm on the side was pointed almost directly onto the EXHAUST vents on the GPU. The case fan was running at medium setting--1600RPM, 56CFM. The GPU fan was on 100% the entire time.
The ambient temperature was 19c throughout all temperature trials.
Each temperature recorded was taken one minute after the card was loaded for 5 minutes.
The tests in the order I did them:
1. Case open
2. Intake
3. Exhaust

Share your opinions. Is your side fan on intake or exhaust? What is the impact on GPU temps?
