Odd Temps w/ Hyper 212+ & Phenom II x2 550

Thread Starter
I've just installed a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ fan/heatsink. I'm pretty sure I did a fairly bad job of installing it (my first time) as I used way too much thermal compound (dripped out, had to wipe it up) and the heatsink got moved about a bunch before I got it seated properly.

I decided not to re-do it and I booted up to check temps. [I[Previously my idle load temps were 40°/60°[/I] now idle core temp reads as 18.5° and load (Without any fan at all! I turned it off just to see how hot it would get.) as 31.5°.

I'm thinking there's something wrong with the temperature sensors here, at lower temps going by socket temp core seems to be a bit above room temperature which seems ridiculously low to me but fine, at load using Prime95 with the fan off the core temp reads 31.5° and the socket is steady at 40°.

At high temps (>45ish) the socket is about 4° off from the core, not sure about low temps.

Any feedback? I attached the HWMonitor screenshot.

thats pretty impossible. i dont think that HW monitor works too well with AMD processors. but whas the thermal paste white or grey? the white stuff coolermaster provide with some of their heatsinks actually conducts electricity, and since you said that you put way too much on and it dripped over the edge there might be some under the cpu and shorting out a pin or 2 on the cpu. double check that.

Completely ignore the core temp. TMPIN1 (or 0 in some cases? I can't remember.) is the one to monitor.

Yea, that's pretty odd.

edit: nvm, seems normal.
