That can't be; the HD3850 compares with the 9600GT; the HD3870 compares with the 8800GT; I'm talking about the 512MB versions, but I don't think the situation could be that different when comparing 256MB models.

Anyway, I don't recommend any of those; the 256MB will limit the 8800GT very much. And besides, that price is too expensive.

I sold my 8800GT Turboforce Edition for €40. I would max it at €45 for an 8800GT 512MB; a 256MB version will get even less. Depends on how old it is, of course; mine was more than two years old.

I just hope they arrive safely. A couple of buyers have complained about poor packaging and bent pins on CPUs upon arrival from this seller...

I will start benchmarking once I have the PC all set up.

I will start with it just as it is, then upgrade the ram from 1.5GB to 2GB, and then upgrade the GPU to the X1950 Pro, and then to the CPU and Sound Card, whichever arrives first.

As to the benchmarks, I was thinking of

- Crysis - using the built-in benchmark;
- Crysis Warhead - using the built-in benchmark;

- Half-Life 2 - using fraps;

And for synthetic , the tow benchmarks that work with Windows XP and test DX9 performance:

- PCMark05;
- 3DMark06;

As to the CPU - oh... I didn't notice that, the seller seems to have a lot of good feedback. I'll go check, thanks. Anyway, if it's properly packaged, it's very hard to damage the pins on the CPU.

I have bought quite a few CPU's, some even bigger (from the 90's for collecting purposes), and all arrive well packaged with the pins intact. In a case or another it's possible one or two pins might be slightly bent, but that is easily correctable. I hope it's just that, at the most.

You shouldn't check the positive feedback the seller has received; always check the neutral & negative remarks instead. It is entirely possible that a particular batch of items is faulty and you might've been tempted to buy one of them.
Still, I'm hoping for the best, though a couple of bent pins shouldn't be a problem either. As long as it's not half the die

Oh, regarding synthetic benches, I primarily use Passmark Performance Test 7.0
It provides an in-depth analysis of all components, performing a large variety of tests. You can also compare the results to other people's/your previous benches... Pretty good stuff, I daresay.

Hmmm, I'll look into it, I usually do it, but since the overall feedback was good and the price was low, I didn't bother this time... oh well, it happens sometimes. Anyway, I think it has arrived, I have a notice from the Post Office to pick up a package; I will pick it up today, so in a few hours I'll know if it's ok or not.

As to the synthetic benches, I'll add Passmark to the list. We will then have comparable data
