I used a Noctua NH-U12P cooler with a Nexus Real silent 120mm that ran with an U.L.N.A that came with the cooler. so the fan ran at ~550-600RPM.
Temps where 54c idle and 66c load IIRC.

Pretty nice, considering it's a prescott that's OCed by nearly 2GHz

In other news, tpi, looks like we bought the CPUs a bit too early. The same guy we bought 'em from dropped the price to $32.22 >.>

Add me, Pentium D 830

The only pentium or celeron chip i've ever owned is a Celeron 900 mhz in a laptop I still have.

I don't consider the E2180 a Pentium as its based on Core 2 tech and not the old P4 architecture

Pentium 4 478 northwood core. 2.8 ghz. Goes a might faster though. Coupled with a gigabyte 7600gs that happens to hit around 560 mhz it's one mean old machine. About as 1/2 to 2/3rds as fast as my current machine it just uses 90 watts more power. GPU uses about the same, cpu uses about 80 more watts and the system uses about 10 more watts.

Yeah, I went back to ebay yesterday and noticed there are a lot of P4 chips there now from China, with different prices.

Oh well, you never know when is the right time.

Just found myself a little job through a relative and received an ancient laptop for work purposes:
Celeron M 430 - 1,73GHz FSB533 1MB L2, single core, single thread. Onboard graphics, 512MB DDR2-667 RAM and a 60GB Fujitsu IDE HDD.
Gonna do some benchmarks later

EDIT: There we go. It wasn't actually as terri-bad as I thought it would be. Still, the lack of HT on a CPU as crappy as this really effs up the multitasking efficiency.

I think I already worked on a Laptop with that CPU too! It as a Celeron M with 1MB of cache. I don't recall the exact speed though. But remember it was remarkably fast.

1MB of cache makes a big difference, but also the fact it's based on the Pentium 3M, Pentium M, which later came to be the Core, and Core 2.

Indeed, it does at least feel better than my old desktop celeron, that's for sure. Also, if we take into consideration, that the laptop is loaded with crap like useless software and a ton of startup apps (most of which I just disabled; only left the crappy antivirus on), a format+a clean windows install would make it buzz like a bee Too bad it isn't technically mine, so I can't go around formatting stuff. A pity.
