I have a P4 Prescott HT 3.2GHz/1MB/800 [SL7PN] [s478]

You can check out The GIMP to see full specs of the rig it's currently running in.

Plus I like how it's taking up more space than it has any right to
I edited in the results in my last post btw.

Edit: Just saw your edit. That's pretty good I thought it would get a bit more to be honest though, is '06 multi-threaded for the graphics tests as well as the CPU one or is your card limitting your graphics test scores? I thought the x1950 would keep up with a p4 quite well

Oh, I made another edit to my last post at the same time - I also added a paragraph to the end but didn't make notice of it, so I'm not sure you got to read it or not.

As to the benchmark, it's pretty good, I guess, but why did you think I would get more ?

Oh, I forgot to add, I tested at 1024x768 and you probably tested at the default resolution, which is higher, probably 1280x1024, right ? Normally you can't edit the default resolution on the free version, but since I tested it on 15 inch LG LCD from 2001, that maxes out at 1024x768, that's the resolution the benchmark ran at, so I'm getting higher scores proportionally to yours.

As to the mechanics behind 3d Mark06 I have no idea how it works, but the scores seem to be in line with comparable systems. The Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz can still take advantage of slightly more powerful graphics cards before becoming the bottleneck. A X1950XT, for example, or even a Radeon HD3850 or a 4670, altough with these two cards you won't see the full benefit. One thing I'm missing is the extra frambuffer. This system will benefit from having a card with 512MB. I'm considering getting either a Radeon HD3850 or an HD4670.

I have a P4 2.6(no HT) Northwood(i think) s478 sitting in my closet but no mobo to run it on
Had it to 3.2 on stock voltage before mobo died.
I also have a P3 but i dont think it counts
Was a VERY cool chip ran at around ~30-40C OC'd

You have a 3.2 Ghz P4, 3GB of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate installed, and only a Geforce 6200 ? Oh the heresy ! LOLOL

I know, I don't use it that often really and I have been lazy with looking for something better for it, I just keep spending my spare money on my main rig too and that seems to be neverending.

I mixed up the 1950s I forgot about the XT. I had two 3870s (then one because one of them took a bath with my p5e when my cpu-block leaked ) and I sold the working one to a friend. They're really nice cards as long as you steer clear of AA. I just looked up 3850 vs 4670 and had no idea they were that close to each other in performance, I'd say either one of those cards would be a good buy if you could pick one up cheap

I'm lapping my 2,6 NW at the moment. Already removed the zinc layer, what's left now is the smoothing process. The sandpaper grit I'm using is as follows:
400
800
1200
1500
2000
2500

Jumped the gun a bit too early and went for high grit while I still had stuff left to do using the 800g paper, so had to go back. Now, however, I'm going for 1500. If all goes well, I'll lap my 3,4 NW as well. The temperatures need to drop ASAP.

1200
1500
2000
2500

Jumped the gun a bit too early and went for high grit while I still had stuff left to do using the 800g paper, so had to go back. Now, however, I'm going for 1500. If all goes well, I'll lap my 3,4 NW as well. The temperatures need to drop ASAP.

You won't get much from all that work if you don't use a good heatsink. Have you bought the Scythe Katana 3 ?

Nay, I have no funds at the moment. In light of that, every few degrees count AND it's fun
I'm also considering completely removing the IHS, since it seems s478 CPU IHSs aren't soldered to the cores. I'm still a bit reluctant to risk it, though...

Edit: meh, since the 2,6 is a backup now, I went ahead and removed the IHS. Woot! Success No damage to the core. Made a couple of tiny scratches on the area around it while removing the IHS, though. Will try popping the CPU in tomorrow.

Now THAT might bring some improvements. Let us know if the heatsink makes good contact with the CPU die.
