HELP! Computer suddenly freezing

Hey guys my sig rig is suddenly freezing for no reason at all... I have even moved everything to stock setting...NO OC AT ALL.... It runs fine for a while, locks up, then if I immediatley reboot it will post then it takes forever for it to even make it through the pre windows bios boot and raid controller boot...like that either takes likes a whole minute or it wont even do it. If I let it set for like an hour or so then it work fine......... Is this a CPU problem or a mobo issue? I am inclined to think its a mobo issue but I wanted some advice. Thanks.

Sounds to me like a hard drive is going bad. Run spinrite.

Ooops, sorry. Just noticed the motherboard and if I recall right, those had a tendency to have problems late in life. How old is the board?

Well I bought it used and had to rma it when it arrived and I guess I have had it a year or so. My gut says mobo. I kinda want an excuse to get an Asus p5q-deluxe. Which can oc to like mad. I got a q8200 to 3.1 stable on it. And those CPUs suck at oc'ing

You should start with some simple tests, just to eliminate some things.

Like.. a Memtest+. Give that a whirl-- you never know.

i think you are having extremely low temps....
just kidding

I would recommend a memory test.

can should get memtest+ v4.0 from this website:

http://www.memtest.org
And then download the .iso file and burn it on CD (burn as image file not as data CD). It doesn't even matter which OS you have because memtest will boot from the CD.

very simple.

Even easier if you have a thumb drive and download the USB installer to boot from .
