^This.

I love my dual 295's, but they're noisy and heat factories to boot that suck much power. And yes, the only way they'll really shine when you push them is to LC 'em.

Unless you're getting a crazy-good price, get dual 460's or a 560 instead.

Good luck.

The minimum FPS are horrible at that rate and I did have microstutter. The FPS in most games (I don't remember the game anymore ) just dropped from 70 FPS average @ 2xAA to 25 FPS @ 8xCSAA. Other than that, OC'ed I believe it was the fastest card I've owned.

My GTX 470 OC'ed is usually within 5-10% of the GTX 295 when both OC'ed, but it offers far smoother gameplay and I can even play the games at 32xCSAA. You'll also miss out on tesselation if you go with the GTX 295.
Yeah, after looking at some old benches from when I had this card, I have to agree. Although averages are great, the MIN's when running AA on some of the tougher games was an issue.

An OC'd 460 1GB or 470 will definitely offer smoother gameplay than a 295, and considering that they're going for around $200 on sale these days, I'd be inclined to say unless the 295 is <$170, I'd probably save up a for a bit and get one of those two cards.

A lot of people have been getting unlockable evga GTX465's from newegg lately I've noticed, and those are only like $165 last I looked. This is probably the best deal going these days, IMHO.

well a gtx460 is comparable to a gtx280...and the 295 is like 2x 275's. so to answer your question the gtx295 would be faster but it doesn't support dx11 and uses considerably more power.

This for price point alone, 295's are good but if DX11 isn't your thing and you can handle the known issues of dual GPU cards then go for it.
Less than 170 would be about what I would spend on one actually, or get a GTX 470 or even a GTX 480 used for less than 200. I'm pretty sure you can snag one up in the FS section.

I will be SLI'n my GTX 470 and putting the second one on water as well, HEAT is what comes to mind and the 295 can get hot.*water cooling is a must if you don't have adequate airflow.

Do as you wish, just make sure the card is in tip top shape.

Go 400/500 series or get an ATI card, that is my suggestions
