Overclocking 980X / Asus P6X58D

Thread Starter
Hi

I did a search and found some info, but wanted to start my own thread to get some input

The Build so far

CPU: i7 980X
CPU Cooler: Corsaif H50/70 (70 should be here tomorrow)
Motherboard : Asus 96X58D Premium
Memory: Corsair Dominator GT PC16000/2000Mhz
HD: Crucial C300 SSD
Case: Thermaltake Level 10

I've upgraded from a Q6600 which was running 4ghz with a TRU,
but I'm not to familiar with the Asus, came from an EVGA. I've kept the system stock for like a year now, and the OC bug is starting to bite again. smile.gif

Looking for some settings to get my 980x above 4Ghz.

Found this from another post

It is not too difficult OCing with the 980x. in fact, it takes some of the fun out of it with the unlocked multi. I've been able to easily push mine to 4.0GHz with 1.27v vcore, 1.25v QPI, x27 multi and bclk 150 with the ram at 1806 at 7-8-7-24 1T.

Your bios has most of the same bios options as mine, and can easuily pus a 211 bclk. So you could, with approx 1.30v QPI, run bclk 211 with x19 multi.

And note the ram is rated for 1600, not 1600MHz. With DDR ram (Double Data Rate), the rated speed is the MHz x 2. So DDR 1600 ram runs at 800MHz.

I'm thinking due to the Triple Channel memory, the settings wouldn't really apply for my build.

Any suggestions, or guidence would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking and helping!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Mainly I'm looking for stability, and some help tuning it up. I'm not familiar at all with the Asus mobo, the language is different from the EVGA.

I'm running the H50 right now, but have a H70 in the mail. Which RAM multi should I use with the triple channel?

Well I did some experimenting and currently at

4Ghz
I just raised the multi to 28
Bus Speed is 143
QPI Link 3432.2

I think I need to change the settings for the memory since its running at 2T at the moment.

1001mhz, 2:14 ratio, 8-8-8-24 2T

What do these processors usually handle Multi wise? Or is it better to increase the bclk and lower the multi?

Also is there a guide for my Mobo? There are a lot of setting I'm not to familiar with.

I figure it's easier to post up some pictures. Anything I should change ATM?

I backed down the multi to 25 but increased the BCLK to 165 resulting in

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1617432

I set voltage to 1.3V, so looks like there is some vdrop.

What I'm confused on at the moment is the memory. Should I try another ratio, 495Mhz seems wrong.

I can get you 4.3 Ghz stable. All I need is what memoryyou have, rated timing and MHz. And what batch 980x you have.
