LG Electronics and carrier SK Telecom will tomorrow be releasing in South Korea the 'first dual-core smartphone', the Tegra 2-powered Optimus 2X which runs Android 2.2 (will receive an update to 2.3, eventually) and costs about $240 with a two-year service plan.

Tegra 2.5 might be announced soon, but it won't be used in phones until 2012. It takes time to design and then manufacture phones. And Tegra 3 will most likely be only for Tablets. Why would you need a quad-core for a smartphone?

never know, in few years we need all that power

is like saying why we need a 8-16core CPU when Dual Core is really enough to do everyday taskes and gaming, i can wait for Smartphone 3D, only 1 years til 2012 and 1 years and 11months until doomsday

You can't compare the two. Smartphones and computers are completely different things and are addressed to perform different tasks. I can understand how a dual-core will help, especially for business people who need to switch between tasks quickly, without delay, but a quad-core is ridiculous. What would you need it for? Exactly, nothing. Tegra 3 should only be for tablets, anyway, and you won't find any 3D smartphones anytime soon. And there is no doomsday. If you go by the Mayan calander, then you should know that they miscalculated when it ends . Tegra 2.5 isn't even announced, and look how long Tegra 2 has been around for (announced 2009) and it's only just come out NOW for smartphones.
