Okay, so say if you were charged.... and you touched someone and zap... a little sting.... that's ESD.... If you were charged and touched a motherboard... cpu or graphics card or any of the naked components, that charge is going to zap through all the lanes on the motherboard, straight into the chips and cause damage....
You may not notice it, but you could be taking year's worth of life on the component (motherboard, cpu etc...) and cause the whole system to malfunction.... this is a big problem with memory's if you handle them wrong... they will keep corrupting the data due to a damaged chip which was caused by ESD
