Increasing vcore does nothing to stability. - Page 3

@Alltoasters

I have a P5Q Turbo.
I'm running it stable with 514x8 fsb, using 1.28v for vNB, vFsb 1.32v with my E8500.

My board makes my oc unstable when using too much voltage on those also.
Around or below 1.3 vFSB & vNB should be enough for such fsb speed.
Gtl ref 0.63x as atleast in my bios there's only one gtl ref setting and that's for cpu.

Easiest way to get it stable is to try those settings with the fsb you want to use and then lower the multi. As my max multi is 9.5x, so i used 6x514fsb and got around 3.08Ghz, which is .08ghz lower than my stock speed.
Then run Prime95 with Large FFT for around 4 hours to see if your settings are stable for that fsb you've set and vcore set about default vid of the cpu.
As for me it was 1.225-1.23v.

When you have passed prime with lower speed, you can start upping that multi.
As you have passed prime with those settings, after that it's up to your Vcore to get it stable. No need to change other settings.
Up your multi and run IBT with HIGH or MAX ram. If it fails, give it more Vcore and try again.

Ok, i lowered my ram speed to 667, loosend the timings, upped the nb and fsb term (to 1.2) and gtl voltage ( to 0.63) and upped the fsb to 333. im running burntest now. i think im going to run 5 burntests, then about 10 mins of occt, and if it passes them then i will bump the ram speed up. If its still stable then i will up the multi. If its still stable, i will up the fsb even more tomorrow.

well, i used only prime95 to find stable settings.

When i did i started upping multi and vcore, then ibt 10-20 runs with max ram.
If you get it stable with prime for 4 hours large fft and 20 ibt runs with max ram, it's pretty much rock solid. Try atleast 2 hours
I know, it's so damn boring to wait.. but it's worth it.

You can pass 5-10 runs on ibt, but it doesn't mean it's stable. I've seen it many times.

I'm pretty shocked if your hyperx won't like any overclocking..
My 800mhz Team dark mem are overclocked to 1030mhz atm and they're fine.
5-5-5-18 timings used. They were unstable with too much voltage thought.. 2.1-2.2 was too much. 2.04v now and they're running great
I think hyperx should clock to 900-1000 easily. There's threads about overclocking hyperx's around this forum. See it yourself.

Also as i know, some P5Q boards are unstable when using manual fsb strap to nb.. so some people have been using it on auto. My board works on both.

It passed the tests at high speed ram, but failed when I upped the multi, but some vcore fixed that. 20passes of ibt later, and some occt, and im sure its pretty stable. i will try going higher tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this, you will all get rep in time.

that's pretty good then. It's normal to fail after upping the multi because the warp in mhz is so big, that it's obvious that it won't be stable with the same vcore as earlier.

Try that 20 passes with ibt to be sure. I've had several times ibt failing around 14-19 passes. 2 Hours of OCCT stable should be pretty stable.

The idea of using one test at the time makes overclocking a bit easier. As i said earlier that i used low multi to get the speed down and used the stock vcore. This way you don't have to change vcore at all to find you stable settings for prime/occt.

Upping Vcore is needed only when starting to up the multi as the system has been tested to be stable at default speed/below default speed with higher fsb than stock. So the board is fine with that fsb set and running without crashing/failing.

And in that point, you don't need to use prime/occt anymore, ibt is only thing you really need. Then it's only up to the Vcore to stabilize the ibt.

Good luck, man!

I don't think its the motherboard, that's a good board you have there.
