I'm going to wait until I get a response from nvidia or a manufacturer before attempting to flash my only GPU with a 560 BIOS. Is that a fair argument?
The idiot remark isn't necessarily a "bad" thing. Again, all of our unlocks that we know about have been figured out by people that I would call an "idiot" based off of things exactly like this.
My point being, that if this was possible, it would have been done already. The GTX460 has been out for a very long time now. SOMEBODY would have figured out that you could unlock the extra SP's by now. Period. There's enough "idiots" in the world to have already looked at the BIOS and the firmware and found out....hey these extra 48 SP's can be unlocked by software!
But that hasn't happened, because its impossible. Same thing with this BIOS flash. Sure, you can put the BIOS on it, but its not going to change a thing. The card is still physically going to be a GTX460.
I'm simply ATTEMPTING to save you guys some time, and the possibility of a bricked card.

It's very clear that the extra two SM's on the 470 were cut, not just disabled, because people tried flashing 470's to 480's many times, and it doesn't work to unlock an SM.
Personally I think that if the last SM on GF104 was only locked down via firmware, there's people out there smart enough to figure out how to mod the GTX460 bios to unlock the SM if it could be done. Just look at a 465 bios vs. a 470 bios in a hex editor, figure out how the 'locking' was done there, and translate this change to the 460 bios, basically.
So, my take is that if could be done, someone would've done it already, and we'd all know about it by now.
This exactly. If it could have been done, it would have been done a very long time ago.
