So why is using the epdm rubber between the backplate and the mobo a bad thing?

looks good to me, u insert the bolt from the back, but put the spacer between the board and the bolt on the back of the mother board so it will not bend, then just follow the general directions that are on front page of the EK piece of paper, does that kind of make sense

Probably because of the metal plate on the back of X58 mobos. Those plastic spacers are exactly that width. If you use the rubber, you'd have a bulge where that metal plate is. That's what I've noticed on mine anyway.

why would the spacers go behind the motherboard? i put mine on the front of the motherboard somewhere think it was the first thing i put on then the pvc then metal washer then nut , block, spring, thumbnut.

The reason i didn't put the spacer on the back was because it didn't look like it would do anything, due to the metal plate on the back of the motherboard the spacer looked like it would just sit there doing nothing, hence i thought the reason for the spacer was on the front so that you couldn't tighen the thumbscrews down as much

p.s. and yes the instructions suck hardcore looks like a 2 year old wrote them. and my jetplate was wrong too, and ontop of it they sent me 2 plates with 3 slots and no blank plate....

When I installed my Supreme Gold plated HF I had to trim some of the solder on my board and use an extra Nylon washer for added clearance on the back side
My board would not post the first time I fired it up, thankfully it was not in the case yet

other than that install went ezzy pezzy, but I am pretty good at figuring out mechanical things
people not so much

The plastic black washers go between the metal backplate (the one ek supplied) and the board to prevent warping when you tighten down the thumbscrews on the top (front) of the board.
