Yeah there is supposed to be a problem with some of the intel based sata controllers on the motherboards, I haven't had a problem yet but if it does occur I'll just have to RMA it. I believe since it's a factory recall I won't have to pay to ship it back, I may talk to Gigabyte to see if they'll hold a charge to send me a replacement first.

Problem is, if you lose data. Not just your pc won't boot.

You really ought to get an SSD, if we had our two systems side by side just running basic programs, opening windows and restarting/start up etc, they'd probably say I had the Sandy Bridge, whilst with the HDD they'd probably think you had the slow arse Phenom!

...hang on, mustn't mention hard drives must we! LOL

You wouldn't see a problem until after several years of usage. It's supposed to take time to manifest. 5-15% is what I read earlier. Personally, I'd just send in my board now and that way I wouldn't have to worry.

The problem isn't supposed to cause data loss, but eventually your computer will be unable to POST.

lol lucky those things mentioned take up about 40 seconds of a 12 hour computer usage day.

I hear it also only affects the 3Gb/s sata port, if I used my 6Gb/s port it wouldn't matter right? I was thinking putting a mid sized ssd on them once they don't cost a fortune.

Seriously, I never have read a single Intel thread in this forum because I don't have any Intel hardware nor am I interested in having any. Ever! Why oh why are so many Intel shrews in an AMD thread throwing their weight around? We don't need your biased input. Go away and shill for Intel somewhere else. Ok? Thanks!

Read on slashdot it's not supposed to affect ports 0 and 1 (SATA 6Gb/s) but rather only the 3GB/s ports so you should be find as long as you've only got 2 drives and put them on your 6Gb/s ports, hell even if you have a third SATA optical drive or a third HDD for storage I wouldn't be too worried about it.

This recall is pretty much unprecedented though, at least they learnt from the FDIV bug in their P3 chips and are taking preventative measures before SB hits the more mainstream market and it's fully rolled out to a large share of the market. Apparently they're looking at losing $300M worth of sales for this thing to get fixed.

PS: Micron..... I buy whatever is the best in the market at the time. I have no brand loyalty, if the company can deliver the product with good performance at a reasonable price (and in an ethical way) then I'll go with them.

Man, I'd hate to see what it looks like in vantage

Not hating, it doesn't really matter for most people - but it's the reason why *I* skipped out on AMD like a thief in the night.

we're all glad that you're proud of your purchase... let us grab you a cookie sir.

oh, REALLY? are you 100% sure ?
intel was able reproduce that error, with bit harder ssd usage..
