Add Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader
Link
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dkdwvn1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&model_id=alienware-m17x-r3

Full specs:
Core i7 2630qm
4gb ddr3 1333mhz
1.5 gtx460m
320gb hdd
17.3 1920x1080 120hz w/nvidia 3d vision bundle
blu ray drive

Take a look at the close call that i almost went with.

default primary hdd to 320gb
default second hdd to 320gb

The reason i didnt go with asus is because 1 the alienware has the 2630qm core i7.. The newest cpu's out. The Asus did have more ram But i didnt like how the asus one try & charge you for any lights on the damn thing. If am gonna pay 2k for a laptop i want it to shine as well. Alienware won me over with performance & looks..

Do you like my 3d laptop choice?

I would see if you can lower some of the other specs and get a 7200RPM harddrive and a better video card. If your doing any 3d then you would want something much better. Good luck and enjoy that present smile.gif

I'm not saying that Allienware is a bad option just saying you can get the same specs cheapers on asus, Malibal, or Sager.

congrats on deciding to go with an alienware laptop. you won't be disappointed. i've had my m17x r.2 for quite a while and love it.

as for your configuration, i would lose the blu-ray drive. the way i see it, blu-ray quality/resolution is mostly lost on any screen (monitor or tv) smaller than 42 inches. i mean, if this is something you are taking to college and simply don't have the room for a tv/blu-ray setup, then i suppose this would fill the gap. if not, then i would lose the blu-ray drive and get either a faster cpu, more ram, a bigger hard drive, or all three lol. if you can afford it, i would definately go for a ssd. that will make that laptop absolutely fly.

also, i am not sure how 3d will play on the gtx 460m. all i know is that on desktops, running 3d takes a rather beefed up system for it to be smooth. hopefully it works out for you since the 460m is the only gpu option.

You should have gotten the Sony Vaio F series 3d coming out February 10ish.

-3d (comes with 1 pair of glasses)
-15"1080P
-SSD options
-Sandy Bridge
-cheaper then A.W.

Just my 2 cents.

i think you should have bought a desktop considering the alienware weighs more than my lian li tower and 2 monitors combined.
