Heat capacity matters only if you need the temperature change per watt under initial conditions or in an open system (stick with the context). In a closed-loop liquid cooling system, you should be caring about thermal conductivity. Water > alcohol > oil > air. The system should be considered under equilibrium, spend time figuring out how much radiator you need instead. Water as a coolant is convenient and cheap. Reagent water is as clean as we can get, but it does become conductive quickly. Better than tap water. Remember that our tubing, no matter how expensive, still allows gas to diffuse into the system and react. Also, what the heck is an "oxigen ion" OP?

I'm sorry but medical tubing which is what is generally used in water cooling is non porous. no air gets through it. copper/steel/nickel plate is also completely air tight unless corroded to the point of falling apart.

There is no such thing as "completely air tight". Only difference is in the diffusion speed. You can run straight copper tubes of inch thick and still get diffusion both ways - water evaporation slowly and atmospheric gases getting in slowly. It would be just rather slow wink.gif

Under atmospheric pressure gasses get inside metals just fine - for example when you are trying to do a high vacuum in lab you first pump it relatively low and at some point the walls (usually copper) start giving off the gas that's diffused into these so it takes quite a while to get high vacuum even with very good pumps.

If you wanted to have something the closest possible to airtight my guess is it would take Uranium tubing coated on the inside with uranium oxide.

The more dense the material, the smaller the porus on it are, thus more 'airtight' it is.

Well I guess I can see that point. but it'd take years for any meaningfull amount of o2 to get through that tubing enough to affect bacterial growth in an "airtight" loop.

Gold would be the closest to molecularily airtight. it blocks even gamma rays. non reactive to just about everything.

I just cant see the point in using gold tubing.when a tiny amount of dawn soap would make water cool better and prevent bacteria.

Liquid salts and metals are used in some reactor types as well, however, these are a bit .. khm .. unwieldy for the loop inside your PC.

There are stuff that's better than water and stable enough at room temps for the loop, but its very expensive and you might need an different pump. For example the uberstuff from 3M costing about 1000$ a liter.

In a nutshell water is used bcos it has the best price/performance ratio and if you have a leak you will not die from the vapors in your sleep as a result.
