iPhone 4 vs Droid - Page 2

If there is something that competes with this I'd like to see it, I don't know phones too well as I only really upgrade every 2 years and then leave it.
That's a very generic list for smartphones, and the Droid X can easily handle those as well. Hell, it even has upgradable storage compared to the iPhone.

And for that "relatively durable" point: the iPhone 4's "natural case" is made of glass. I dropped my Droid X three feet once onto rough pavement. Small impact on the corner, and the screen got a dot. I really doubt the iPhone 4 would have held up like that.

Comparing a phone to an entire line of phones is kind of stupid

There are good droids and then there are terrible droids.

The iPhone is either good or terrible for you.

Go to the store and try it out yourself. Some people like the feel of the iPhone while some like the Droid(s).

The Droid does the same things listed above.

I have the droid x and i personally like it over the iphone.

Androids are more robust and are growing rapidly. It's only a matter of time before iOS being so locked down by Apple kills the iPhone.
This ^

A phone, like a monitor, is something you should see in person before you buy. It's too "personal" I guess - sometimes intangibles like tactile feel and real world appearance are more important than you think.

I am not an Apple fanboy or hater, but the hype on their products, particularly the iPhone, is not always based in reality.

See (and feel) them both, compare prices and call plans and THEN make the erm, "call."

The classic case of Apple's App Store quality and quantity vs. Android's open-ended options for customization. You can't go wrong with both here, but just for the tie-breaker I would like to point out that hardware-wise, Android phones are killing the iPhone. The recent introduction of Tegra 2 on the Atrix, Bionic and Optimus 2x is a definite milestone for Android - as if AMOLED screens, 512mb RAM and HDMI connection aren't enough.

go android because you can overclock it and that's why you're on this website

i prefer my galaxy S captivate over Iphone 4 any day of the week i've played with both and the droid is lot cooler the app market might be smaller but android has seen a huge increase in apps and in phone sells so you can expect to have some sweet apps on it in the future oh and Droid supports Flash iphone doesnt

forgot to mention most droids have a sd card reader in them so you can add like a 32gbs micro sd card for like 40-50$

I worked with a guy who dropped his droid on gravel (from 2-3 feet) and COMPLETELY shattered the screen. I don't mean in one or two places but i mean it was like looking through cracks everywhere.

I think the durability of each phone is kind of luck, but the iphone (from handling it) seems to be a LITTLE better built.

Also I found out I'm eligible for upgrade RIGHT NOW (Odd, because 2 years ago I was told the 1st)

I guess 2 weeks from now I'll be in the verizon store doing a side by side

My buddy recommended HTC Hummingbird

Unrelated, but I bought my television from Newegg after only lightly reading reviews (REALLY good deal.. $550 shipped with 3 year warranty)

Still leaning towards iPhone, just realized it has unlimited data for $30/mo.

Definitely going to be heading for the droid first though and seeing how it compares

i've had iphones, i've had symbians and i've had androids.

iphones are great phones, really. despite the hype and bandwagoneers, iphone is a great introductory "power" phone. easy to use ui, great music player, great internet browsing, maps, etc. however, horrible at playing nice with windows (no, i don't want to update itunes again, or quicktime, go away apple updater!), on complete and total lock down and have very limited customization. major upgrades require you to purchase a new phone every 6 months. yeah, you want the features you thought we were giving you in that iphone 4 you just bought, well, you have ot buy the iphone 5 to find out if we may have put them in there. if you just want a cool phone, that looks good, has a ton of options and you don't want to play around with it, get an iphone.

symbian, well, nokias are beautiful phones. ergonomic and can make it through any thing you can throw it at or dunk it in. the OS however, sucks. it's like stepping back in time. ovi store sucks. if you want a phone that you never want to use, but will like it when people say, hey, that's a nice looking phone, get a nokia e series.

android, well, i think android is on it's way to being the global dominator. you can put your swing on it. spin it however you want. every manufacture has there own type of interfaces for it. soo many options, looks, apps, widgets, etc. it's damn near mind boggling. every release of android gets better and better. *most* current android devices will support up to 2.2 or even 2.3+. however, there are some pitfall phones out there with android (ie flip out, blur, etc). if you stick with the big dogs (galaxy/nexus series, droid series, htc's), you'll end up with a great phone. however, be prepared to tinker. don't get me wrong, you can use the device out of the box as it and be perfectly happy. but once you start seeing what others are doing online, and you start to try it. next thing you know you're rooted, have a custom recovery flashing all sorts of roms and themes and modifying build.props. and i love the google integration. syncing contacts, calendars, etc with my google account makes it so easy to transfer phones and access my info from computer/etc.

windows phone 7, i have a very limited experience with it. i've played around with a samsung focus for a few hours. it's very snappy, very good looking, but for the average user, it looks like it may be confusing. only because the ui concept is new and different from the norm. i don't personally like the tiles thing, and the stock firmware only looked like customization was limited to changing the colors of the tiles and rearranging them around. didn't get to check out the app store because i did not log into the phone, but with my past experience with windows mobile devices, be prepared to spend money because past windows mobile platforms have very little free apps.

if it were me, i would go android. i have been very happy with all of my android devices. second choice for me would be the samsung focus. but that's only because i want to tinker with one. i would probably go with a palm webOS device before another iphone, but that's because i've already had 3 iphones and i'm pretty much at my limit of all i can take with apple stuff after that.
