[Joystiq]Dead Space 2 DLC 'Severed' adds two new campaign missions and DSG girl retur - Page 5

I look at it like this: I buy a crotch rocket brand new and a few days later the company tells me there is an aftermarket pipe that I can purchase if I want to experience new sound and performance. With the way some of you think, you feel that the company should give you the aftermarket pipe for free because you just bought the new bike a few days ago. Even if the pipe was offered with the original purchase, because its not "stock" and it adds on to the "experience" its going to cost more in the original price in the first place.

Not to sound like a jerk, but this is called marketing/capitalism and it is what America is founded on. You either buy the experience or you don't, nothing comes for free, work for it.

EA just updated and said the DLC is not coming to PC. Yep PC gamers get the end of the stick once again.
UPDATE: An Electronic Arts representative has confirmed that Dead Space: Severed will not be released for the PC.

Between DLC and $50-$60 games, I'm becoming ever more convinced that the best action a game consumer can take is wait until 6 months after a game comes out, then buy the game for 50% off+all DLC included off Steam or some other service. DS2 will no no different, there will surely at some point be DLC packaged in with the original game, though it may take a while.

Even if they did, it doesn't change much of what I've said.
Either way, I'm not buying it for the PC.

And the time spent on DLC or any extra content is a waste.

'The game isn't finished and they are making DLC.' Without buying the game or looking at the reviews we make this assumption that the game is full of glitches. Even with reviews we have to make this assumption. Not always the case but often enough for us to hate all DLC. There are some diamonds in the rough like Borderlands or Fallout 3 (regardless of the faulty Gamebryo engine).

Now I haven't seen too many cases where DLC does anything to hurt the original game content wise. They would tell you if they broke the game into parts and that you would have to buy each part for the 'full experience' (New Monkey Island series). Mostly just extra equipment or characters that doesn't take anything away from the game. If these didn't exist nobody would be complaining. Not worth it for you? = don't buy it. In some cases like this one it's a totally different story line or an addition to the story which is usually released later.
and I agree.

Ok, so I've had about 24 hrs into the game, beat it and played a couple of hours on multiplayer.

As I said before, this game isn't as outright scary as the first because the newness factor isn't there, it still maximizes the amount of horror and excels at the atmosphere, making it creepy, desperate and sad. It will still make you jump on multiple occasions. One big plus about this game is aside from the guide light, there is NO real help or hints in this game. You will find many a spot where you have to sit and think about what you're supposed to do and how to accomplish it.

I guess my only real gripe is that no new bosses have been introduced. Before, you had a lot of crazy huge monsters. This time around there are 2 bosses and all of them are from the last game ( I think ). Otherwise, +A game

Now the multiplayer is another issue entirely. It plays like it wasn't balanced, playtested and finished. Drops are constant regardless of quality of connection.
You can't chat in multiplayer, mic only. It makes it hard as HELL to try and get a plan going or to get your lost teammates on board.
In some sections, the long-range spitter and the little baby with the 3 stingers seem massively overpowered. Unless you're itching for melee, you'll be playing those 2 exclusively. Their long range attacks need delay timers between shots.
Also, I think it's STUPID to unlock weapons and powerups to higher level players, and since you level based on Kills AND team wins, it's easy to see how some lower level players might stagnate or quit while the higher level guys just get better and better ( power up wise ).

I just finished Dead Space Aftermath, which I highly recommend to anyone who wants more backplot to Stross and how The Sprawl got involved. As long as you can handle mediocre CG, and don't mind various cartoon and anime drawing styles - it's a great watch. I like Stross more as a character now.
I need to read Dead Space Salvage next

I thought the difficulty of the game was alot easier puzzle wise. I never got stuck or had to think about anything really. Hell, even the one puzzle where you're supposed to think doesn't need to be thought about and that's the server room. Instead of trying to memorize the diagrams, just plug them in till they turn green. About 3 times as fast.
I had alot harder time in the first game where there was no guide light to help during puzzles. The guide light would disappear when you did the communication array puzzle for example and all you had was a room full of broken satellite dishes.

There were 2 bosses that were new.
The tripods which are the big two armed necromorphs (first "boss" you fight in the game in Chapter 1 or 2)
The tormentor which is the big necromorph that you get sucked out into space with.

The brute returns from the last game but he's different. Instead of shooting him in the back, you shoot him in the arms/legs to dismember him. Infact, stasis is almost necessary to kill him because he's alot faster.

Then there is the Umbra Necromorph which is a new necromorph but he's basically the same as the previous game's invincible "Nemesis"-esque. In the previous game, you froze him and then set him on fire with the engine to the ship. In this one, you don't actually kill him just run.

I agree it is sad we didnt get anymore Slug bosses or epic Leviathan fights Though some of the space scenes were epic.

I played about 2 rounds of the game with multiplayer and it was OK. You need to play with people who are going to work as a team. The first round was fun because we all played together but the 2nd round I played - everyone was scattered and there was no talking/helping. We failed pretty instantly because the necromorphs just butt rape you.

I agree, the unlocks suck.

There was a private beta on the PS3, and alot of convention demoing. I played it at NYAF back in October. It seemed a whole lot more fun, I cant seem to point out what changed though. Meh I just wanted SP anyway.

One complaint i forgot to add that I HAVE TO now....the multiplayer drops you like CRAZY. I've been dropped every single time I've played (although the connection lasted more rounds than others). In a 4 hr timespan I was probably dropped something like 20 times.
