Microsoft pays people to find any vulnerabilities in their OS's, why not their gadgets too?

This is expected from microsoft nowadays... being paid to hack and destroy their software FOR A GOOD CAUSE, will get you paid. Good cause being to increase security and helping them make a better product.

Sony just doesn't understand the need for jail breakers and hackers to make things better.

That's not true. Years ago it was theorized that sony was selling ps3's at a loss because they did it with blu-rays. That was back when the stuff was expensive to produce. Saying sony now or still sells ps3's at a loss is ludicrous.
