The Birth of Talon the White! (build log)

Hello, as you can see from the title I am doing a build log with a case I got from "I Need A New Case Contest" hosted by Fannblade who also modded the case which was donated by We Gone! Also it was in Case Giveaway #2 and the How To Paint tutorial. Wow, it has just been featured everywhere hasn't it?! tongue.gif. Sadly my budget won't allow me to buy new components for the case, so I will just be transferring components from my old computer to the new case. Needless to say it will look like a brand new computer in the end!

Talon the White will contain:

Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5300
Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard
NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTS
2 GB DDR 800
1 TB Samsung Spinpoint f3 Hard Drive
LG Dual Layer Dvd / Memorex 52x cdrw
Raidmax 530 Watt Power Supply

All put into a brand spankin' new, modded, Rosewill R223-P-BK.

Again all of these are recycled parts from my old computer cool.gif. But hopefully in the near future I will be able to get new parts.

Ok, enough with the chatter, on to the pictures biggrin.gif!

Me with the box with my case in it!

Cutting open the cardboard box.

Taking off the plastic bag type thing that was on the case.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20016.JPG

Case just out of the box!
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20018.JPG

The big hole in the front of my old case..
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20027.JPG

My old case.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20023.JPG

Taking out components from the old case to transfer over to the new one.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20051.JPG

My motherboard with the heatsink.. I take it out and realize that the heat sink is not going to fit with the top fan that is on the side window. frown.gif So I have to take out the window and duplicate it with the fans in a different place.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20025.JPG

Window taken out.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20020.JPG

The duplicate window in front with the outline of where I want the fans. The window in the back is the original one.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20028.JPG

Drilling the holes with the help of my Dad using his drill press. It was quite difficult to drill the screw holes without breaking the plastic so we did quite a few test holes until we found the right bit that wouldn't break the acrilic.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20030.JPG

My dad cutting the two big air holes for the fans with his jig saw.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20038.JPG

The new window is finished with the fans in different places. I forgot to take pictures of putting it in the side of the case with the rubber :/ It was really hard to do. I had the help of my brother though smile.gif
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20046.JPG

New window installed
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20058.JPG

Empty case.. soon to be full smile.gif
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20055.JPG

Installed my motherboard.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20063.JPG

Installed my hard drive.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20065.JPG

My cd drives are installed
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20071.JPG

I am hooking up all of the cables.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20075.JPG

Then to cable management.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20074.JPG

Me working on my cable management.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20076.JPG

Got my cable management done. Picture of the back,
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20085.JPG

Front.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20081.JPG

The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20084.JPG

Its all put together!!!
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20087.JPG

You can sorta see that the cpu cooler wouldn't work with the fan where it was because it sticks out to far. And now that the fans are placed differently, the back fan fits!
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20094.JPG

Its all lit up!!! It looks blue in the picture but in real life the LEDs are white (my camera isn't very good). Hopefully I will be able to add another picture in the near future with my friends camera that gets the colors right.
The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20095.JPG

The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20096.JPG

The%20birth%20of%20Talon%20the%20White%20097.JPG

The New IDE cable is installed! Now it doesn't look as much like a sore thumb tongue.gif!!

Very nice. I like the white. Blade did a nice job on the modding and painting.

I love how you modded it straight away to work with your setup. True modder at heart.

When i first saw the picture with the boxes, i thought the caption was a joke.

I am now amazed that you are so into computers.

I can only hope and pray my kids will be like you. If I ever have any.

I do believe really hard to install is an understatement. Nigh impossible is a better way to describe it. I had to use mineral oil like you did, and my fingers were sore when I was finished. There's no way she could have installed the window by herself tongue.gif. I had to get my Dad to help me even, cause I needed 4 hands to hold it all in place and tape it so I could start placing the middle tightener in. I have never installed anything harder in a computer.

As soon as I saw the case, I basically said, well Emily, you get to do your first case mod. wink.gif. So I let her use some of my acrylic that I got for my case mod, and told her to figure out where to cut the holes etc... then she had Dad cut out the holes. It was definitely a good experience for her.

I should put up my build log. Sadly I am horrible about taking pictures and don't have very many step by step pictures.
