How loud is the LittleDevil Phase unit?

Thread Starter

Hello everyone
I have fell in love with the idea of the LD phase setup for for my Xeon/SR2
I'm totally new to phase cooling and I'm trying to get a idea if this the way to go for me. I have read what I was able to find on the subject, but I haven't been able to get much info on the noise level of such a system. I looking for something quiet and highle OC'ed (maybe an oxymoron) and I was first looking at a good WC setup and then I saw the LD phase products and thought it seemed so nice and beautiful! But is it loud?

The videos I have found where I can hear the sound of phase cooled units are these (not related to LD):

I find both of these setups very noisy, can you guys tell me if this is the norm?

Thanks again

They surely aren't silent by any stretch of the imagination. BUT, they aren't terribly loud either, I think those vids portray a much louder sound than actual.

Although my knowlege is limited to what I have read and watched both of those units sound normal. What you have to think of is how many and how loud the fans would be on a water cooled setup as opposed to the 1 or 2 fans plus compressor on a phase unit.
Also with a SR-2 build you would need a dual evap unit which can be achieved in 2 ways AFAIK.
1 Splitting the cap tube to the evap heads at the filter drier
2 having 2 seperate units under one case
both will be louder than a single headed unit as with option one you need a bigger compressor and condensor to cope with the increased wattage of 2 CPUs and option 2 will use 2 standard size compressors and condensors as seen in the vids
someone more experienced will be able to provide more detailed info

Thank you for the info
#3 - I have talked to LD about the dual setup, and he can provide it fully SR2 ready, so it's very tempting, right now I'm waiting for more info on the sound level. I haven't seen any SR2 Water cooled rigs in real life, but the ones on youtube seems very quiet even though they have many or large fans. But as Jonesey says, it could be the videos that portrays it wrong.

I've asked about the sound level too, he says the units have a 100cfm fan on condensor and the fan on the back is 90cfm. So yeah, not super quiet.

If you want a quiet watercooling system, you just need a decent amount of radiators and decent fans. Although my system doesnt output all that much heat, its can be completely silent to my ears by simply running the fans at a slow RPM and turning off a pump.

Willhemmens: thank you for the input yes a WC solution could also work nicely. Right now I'm waiting for some vids from LD, he'll try to show the noise level

From the looks of it, the only noise I hear from the first video are the 2 5970's on 100% fan.

The second video, that Phase change unit is the only thing making any noise, so the gain on the mic picks it up loud and clear.

I've heard one phase change unit before and it wasn't terribly loud. I'm a stickler for silence and it wasn't too loud for me.

When you get them, can you send them to me? That would be much appreciated since I just bought one of the units.

Willhemmens: I decided to go for his WC cooled case instead, so I'm not getting any vids, but I'm sure he'll send vids to you instead if you ask.
