I cannot attest to exact performance increases with memory overclocking, but you get to a certain point where your GPU core clock starts being held back by your memory clock. I did some extensive testing when I had my 460 SE. I started to see smaller gains in benchmarks at stock memory speeds at around 830 MHz. So, I raised the memory clock from 1700 to 1825. The benchmarks started increasing in similar level percentages like before.
Set your memory to stock, run a benchmark like Heaven. See how much the FPS increases when you take it up to 2000. Not every card does 2000 at 100% usage. Furmark is not a good measurement for memory stability because in 1080p and 8xAA it is only utilizing about 30%.
