I will try to find the kit unless Alan beats me to it after reading this, I am not on OCN as much anymore (after the change of the format) but I run at one of the highest clocks on here to answer others out there I had mine on water and air and highest on air I see needed was 925/1850-2100 or 4200 depending on the way you want to look at it and water was 974/1948-2100 and have been now running them that way for years I think with no problems!
I still am using them as my main cards and see no reason to upgrade as of yet, even the new Kepler has not shown me that I will be impressed lol. I am even using a older lga775 board at the moment due to a bad water leak on my AMD 8core system, and still maxing all my games which is many btw

Awwww Brad.... set me up..lol... USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide The fan speed I didn't mess with because I'm on water, but there are .pdf instructions in the files you download in that zip linked that should explain that.

This is for Win7...

Open folder "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide"

Open folder "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" See SP27213.exe

Instal to your PC. It will instal itself in a folder called "USBDriveFormatTool". Open it.

Have a flash drive plugged in ready to use. Click on HPUSBFW.EXE

Choose "Create a DOS startup disk" using files from ... Browse to "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide"

Select "USB image w7" and Start. This takes ages.

Copy "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide/nvflash" folder contents to the usb

Restart and in motherboard bios make the usb drive the first in your boot order list.

It will say Windows Millenium and below that c: prompt

Type c:nvflash -b backup.rom

Restart, set bios to boot to hdd.

Boot.

Place a copy of the changed bios in the "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide/NiBiTor.v6.02" folder.

Open in NiBiTor.(File - Open Bios)

Open Tools/Fermi Clocks and when complete there,
Open Tools/ Fermi Voltages

They are the ones to look at.

What u do in there: Tools/Fermi Clocks - Change 15 - 5 to 2000

Tools/Fermi Voltages - Change voltage up top to 1.2125 - Change Setting 2 - 1 to your upper voltage (eg 1.1875) and 2 - 0 to a lower voltage (eg 1.1625)

Apply your new settings and Save. Place copy of changed bios in your flash drive/boot disk containing nvflash

Restart. Enter bios. Set to start on USB.

Just type nvflash (biosname).rom and if there is protection that stops you then try again with nvflash -4 -5 -6 (biosname).rom

Nvflash will recognise the bioses one at a time and ask for a y for yes prompt to continue.

When all bios are flashed, restart, enter bios, reset boot order to HDD first, save and reboot.

You should now have a higher voltage limit.

Anyways, props +1, maybe if I get mine in the new case it will run a little cooler.

It's really not that good because this card is a GTX 460 v2 card. The v2's are really a GTX 560 GPU with a smaller memory bus, aka second generation Fermi with faster stock memory than the older GTX 460 models. I was able to buy one for under $100 on newegg a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good performance/price.

I didn't set you up Alan lol, you are just a nice guy that always wants to help others and that is your fault not mine lol!

To the guy that wants to bios mod,

But as I said earlier to the gentlemen trying to do this it is much better to do it yourself, no one "not even Alan" wants to be responsible if something goes wrong, not that it will be there is always that chance and some of us have what is called feelings lol, and it would hurt me if you posted "well I flashed the bios you modded and my card is now bricked"

Trust me that would keep me up at night! you will find us helpful in every way on here, but no one wants to feel that pain. hope you understand
post #3594 of 4095

Yeah, I'm definately gonna hold off doing the Volt mod til I have a PSU better than 650w, and another GTX460 For backup until I know it's not bricked.

Also, WOW, I just noticed the guy you posted with the Gigabyte GTX460SE 1GB that had his over 1kMHz, thats INSANE!drool.gif 890 and mine shoots up to 50C._. I'm hoping that will change with the Phantom I'm modding.

The SE models oc'ed higher due to the lower bus speed( 192 vs 256 ) and 50c is not all that high BTW 105c is top safe temps so if you are able to get 900~950mhz out of it with temps topping out at around 75c your fine even if it was higher still fine! The older cards gtx260s and 8800gts used to run all day long at 80c

My biggest fear with going over 50C is I'm afraid of reaching that threshold where the fans no longer to their job, and it spikes, and POOF, dead card. That and with my current setup, heat bleeds badly off my GPU onto my NB. The hotter my GPU, the higher temps my NB is.

50C is nothing for a gpu. As for yr NB, get a decent fan pointed at it.

M4A87TD doesn't monitor NB AFAIK so what makes you say it's too hot? How hot?

Hey guys, can anyone tell me if there are any Gigabyte GTX460 OC 1GB backplate available? I can only find the EVGA SSC, there was a thread about two Gigabyte 460s White Edition, custom made by a user here which are fantastic but I want to know if there's any from Gigabyte themselves or some different company which fits my model?

Here's the card: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3530

Here's the thread(custom painted white w/ backplate): http://www.overclock.net/t/988487/ocn-gtx-460-oc-white-editon-with-back-plate
