I'm still going to be using my 460 for a while yet, my next upgrade will be CPU, Motherboard and maybe RAM possibly in about a years time, maybe an SSD and/or case sooner. I haven't even thought about a graphics card upgrade.

Same here. CPU is next on my list to upgrade, my gtx 460 still gets the job done for what i want it to do.

My two Palit 460s are on my work PC. My gaming PC has two Gainward 580s. I've also got an EVGA 1GB 460 EE on one of the sacrificial test benches. I feel fortunate I can be that indulgent. biggrin.gif

Hi, i'm new here in the forum.
I've recently assembled my new gaming pc:

i7 920
Rampage II Gene
6*2Gb Ram Corsair DDR3 1600
2 * MSI GTX460 1Gb Talon Attack in SLI
Corsair HX750w
Corsair H60 cooler on the cpu

I have no oc on the cpu, from reading some articles on the web i found out that my gpu's are could manage some oc.
I usually play BF3 at 1080p with all settings at high, at ultra settings it becomes a bit slow.
I have no experience with oc in general, can you give some tips how to oc my 460's to get the most out of them without "murdering" them smile.gif?
I have MSI AfterBurner installed.
I thank any help in advance.

Your SLI setup benefits greatly from a cpu overclock too. 4GHz is good. More is better, but that depends on how good your particular chip is, and how good your cooling is.

In Afterburner you want to unlock clocks and voltages in "Settings". Then with a 460, you'd probably set the highest voltage available, and click "Apply". Then you up the core a bit at a time until you get problems, like artifacts or crashing, and then back off a bit. After that you can try increasing the gfx memory frequency until problems occur, then back off a bit. Each time you change a setting click apply or it is not set.

Heat is an enemy in this. You don't want your cpu going much over 70C in games, or your GPU going much over 85C. Those are my limits, but others will have differing thoughts on this.

Gpuz (Click on that to download)
A lot of your pic is too low a resolution for me to read, but a GPUZ validation (not cpuz) would do for non-sli, but to show SLI need a screenshot of GPUZ which shows SLI that can be read....
Your photo of the cards is fine, just need that GPUZ information as described... smile.gif

Also, this thread uses Heaven 2.1, which gives slightly higher scores.

this unit is going bye-bye on Tuesday in the US, sold for my second 2500K unit...
(GPU's part of the deal)
so I might capture all the data and screens before I disassemble.
just thought I'd give it a quick go.

cheers.

Hey guys, I'm still around, just been busy getting things squared away.

It's come to my attention though that having a well built, OVERPOWERED PSU helps a system a bunch. I am pretty sure my System with my Processor clocked to 3.8GHz, and my RAM slots OCed to handle DDR3-1600, a Antec Kuhler 920 w/Push/Pull setup, and then on top of that my GTX 460SEv1 OCed to 890core/1760shader/2000Mem, it's safe to say when all of these max out on a game, I am pushing my PSU to the limit, and that probably accounts for the high temps in my system.

I would not have stumbled on this had it not been for my old build's PSU dieing in the hands of my brother. With the old 500w Antec Basiq, it's temps stayed pretty high. But luckly, he found a deal on Newegg for Memorial day sales on a 700w PSU, and since he's installed it temps are WAY down all the way around. This has Prompted me to start my search for a Good 850w+ PSU to test my theory that the PSU is my high temp problem.

Once I get these temps down, and the home for my setup built, I will be doing some serious OCing, and possibly looking for a PhysX card, (Since my 2nd slot is only 8x). Any thoughts on a good PhysX core that is fairly cheap to go with a Gigabyte Windforce 2x GTX460SEv1 1GB? looking for something round abouts of $100 Max.
