Anyone with SLI'd 1GB 460s find the vram to be a problem when gaming at 1080p? I was thinking about getting another one but Ellis mentioned something about the limited vram being an issue so I don't know.

In a lot of games, I would hit the VRAM limit and it seemed likely that it was holding the cards back. I also noticed stutter/microstutter and that could have been caused by (or worsened by) the VRAM being all used up.

I might as well wait it out and see if I can pick something along the lines of a 570, 660/Ti or 670 up cheap over the next year. Right now vram usage is around 100MB away from the limit in recent games, so with 2 cards it could well become an issue.

I was just thinking another 460 would be a cheap upgrade, but if it isn't going to do what I want them I'm fine with using a single card for now until I upgrade.

That's exactly what I thought. In the end I decided to try it and decided that it wasn't really what I wanted. I sold the second card for pretty much what I paid for it though, literally having spent something like 30p in total.

I don't think I'd upgrade to less than a 7950 or 670 now. Currently just waiting it out, perhaps for the lower tier GTX 700 cards to come out.

Joining with 2 GTX 460s. One MSI GTX 460, and one EVGA GTX 460 SC SLI'd together smile.gif Really like them compared to my old GTX 260.

I have two 1gb 460s and am getting rid of them...not that they are not doing good but like you said they are limited by the vram...bf3 alone on ultra and everything up takes a minimum of 1.5gb vram on just one 1080 monitor that's not even touching if you go stereo monitor and push big resolutions....and don't be mistaken and think that two 1gb cards=2 gb of mem because it doesn't...they mirror, don't stack the ram. I am happy with my set up but im getting a gtx 770, just gotta wait for the 4gb version and a water block for them!.

Hey guys, can anyone confirm if 28ampere on 12V rail is enough for a gtx 460 hawk (overclocked to 900mhz ) + g620 ?
I bought a second EVGA 460 (the 1370 model, FPB edition with the VRM heatsink) and was happily pairing it up with my 460 EVGA model 1380 in SLI when I heard the fan of the 1370 rattle, poked it, goofed, and broke a blade off the fan. I had the 1370 card in the top slot of 3 slot -spaced SLI (two slots are the card, one blank slot that was the air intake)... so it was a lot hotter than the 1380 for all sorts of reasons. I figure I can worry about replacement fans or just go aftermarket and significantly cooler.

I've got a Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo II in a shopping cart but I can't tell if my 10 cm end to end SLI bridge is going to get around the shroud. Do you guys know ? I can drop another 10 bucks on a 12 cm SLI bridge or start hacking away at the shroud, but hoped to crowdsource the answer ahead of those measures or ordering.

Will join the overclock club soon.... Had the EVGA 460 model 1380 doing 910/2150 at 1.050 volts with the only mods being EVGA VRM heatsinks and Arctic Silver 5 TIM. EVGA's OC scanner is letting me increase the memory to 2250 and not getting artifacts so there's a bit more headroom.

EDIT: OK, looks like I eventually found a picture in this thread of two 460s with the Twin Turbo II coolers. It looks like the cable was customized with some carbon fiber decal but, based on the way my 10 cm SLI cable makes more of a V in the 3 slot SLI now, I decided this guy's cable is probably a 12 cm one that just seems to make it. Ordered a 12 cm cable. http://www.overclock.net/t/924384/official-geforce-gtx-460-fan-club/3320#post_15628517

I also take back my statement on 910/2150 at 1.050 volts. EVGA's Precision X's OC scanner has nothing on the Heaven benchmark (version 4 would crash 910 at 1.062 volts, but I can do 900/2250 at 1.050 volts. Now to find version 2.1).

My SLI'd and OC'd 460s are still going strong and will stay at the new socket 2011 build. 1gig per card is not a problem for me (yet) as my max resolution is 1920x1080.

On another note, it is unfortunately the time that fans in GTX 460s will start to fail. The fan in my primary card works but makes an awful noise above 40% speed.

Don't know about other makes of 460, mine is a reference design from sparkle.

My fan specs are as follows:
12V 0.40A Brand "D" 128015-SH2 EP (128015 is very common in vga fans)
5000 rpm max

75mm X 15 mm (diam X height)

mounting base 3 holes, 47mm apart

4-pin, 15cm cable

Searched the whole internet (twice) for a replacement and the best match is this model, two of which are in the post:

This is an NTK fan model FD8015U12S which is 0.50A (slightly stronger and faster) which *in theory* should make the more powerful fan spin in fewer rpms. On the other side of the fan (ebay listing) is an amd radeon sticker tongue.gif

Bought it from ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181069639164

Generally speaking, the easiest way to find a replacement vga fan is ebay: Search for "vga fan 75 45" (diameter, mounting holes distance in mm) and most probably you will find what you need.

Will post results when the fans arrive and are installed.

EDIT: Aftermarket coolers are out of the question since all of them occupy another pci-e slot so you need 3 slots per card, 6 for sli.
