Well, I quit folding on my GPUs, I'm now only folding -bigadvs on my CPU so I don't need a graphicscard, so just jammed in my old 8400GS.

They were very nice cards. Nice bang for the buck. Not noisy, cool and got a nice and easy OC on them.

Hi guys,

I have an Asus GTX 460 1GB, and, being a complete noob when it comes to overclocking GPU's, I have two questions:

1. I just downloaded and ran Afterburner; it says my GPU's Core Voltage is 1037mv. Is this the actual value or does the voltage go up and down with 3D usage ? I ran Kombustor for a while and the voltage value remained the same (I have voltage monitoring turned on), so I guess this is the stock voltage, right ? Or should I use the program Asus bundles with the card ?

2. If it's the actual value, how far would you say I will be able to overclock it on stock voltage ? I don't want to set any records, I'm actually just wanting to get Crysis to run smooth at 1680x1050 at Very High Settings. Given that I can now get 30fps, I'm thinking 750/775 Mhz can probably give me 36fps. Should I overclock the ram too, or is the stock bandwidth still enough for the 750/775 Mhz Core Clock ?

Cheers!

P.S.: Those of you who have the Asus card installed in a tower case, have you noticed how it bends with the weight of the DirectCU cooler after a few weeks ? That little metal bar is not really up to the job of holding the card in it's original position. Are you guys worried or is this bending acceptable ?

yea that's ur stock 3D voltage. you can up it to 1.087
try upping it to that, then try 850 MHz on the core. if it becomes unstable, lower clocks. if it's stable, up the clocks more by increments of 10 MHz until it becomes unstable, then go to the last highest stable settings you got.
run crysis.
enjoy smoother gameplay and better eyecandies

PS as for the ram, since u got 1 GB card you should be fine. overclock it if you want, but the gain is minimal. do NOT go any higher than 2200 MHz in afterburner. taht is usually the point of instability resulting in degraded performance.

Thanks for the tips! Is that 1.087 the stock voltage of the EVGA FTW version ?

I was wondering if I could overclock some (to 775Mhz, for example) and still maintain the stock voltage. That is the safest way, right ?

Cheers!

Stone's Ruination IPA is very good, but I'd choose Avery's Maharaja over that, and LaConner IPA over either one (unfortunately, the LaConner is only available at the brewery's pub these days).
