HD555 vs. HD595

Thread Starter
First let me say I do not know much about audio (definitely not an audiophile).
I have sort of narrowed it down to the HD555 and the HD595. I was wondering if anyone can suggest one over the other. Is the noise cancelation better on the HD595? From what I have read on the forums the HD555 does not do a good job of blocking external noise. Price is close between the two on amazon right now ($30). My primary use will be listening to music/watching movies on my Macbook Pro when my girlfriend needs quiet and when commuting on the bus and using an mp3 player. Ideally I would like to spend less. Also, can anyone comment on the cord quality on both. I have a cat who likes to snap small cords with her teeth (Apple Earbud thickness).
Thanks in advance! Appreciate the Help!

Both do not block noise much at all. They are open ear designed which is actually better for audio quality wise, but not noise cancellation. I enjoy my HD595 very much. But from what I understand, you can get the 555 and mod em and you basically have a 595. As for the cord, it is thick, but a cat will still be able to chew it up.

The hd 555s and the 595s have no noise cancelation whats so ever. They're open ear headphones. The 595s basicly just are the 555s without a two little pieces of foam on the inside of the speaker mesh. You can easily mod them though. Just open them up, and take out the foam. Thats the only difference though. The 595s just sound a bit better because they don't have that foam.

I'd go for the 555s and mod them down the road. Sound is pretty decent for a <100 pair of phones. The cord is just fine, nowhere near as bad as the Apple one. Although you might look for something closed. The 555s and 595s leak a lot, even more after modding.

These are pretty ok and around the same price

Simple mod, takes 5 minutes tops. If you're looking for something with heavy bass, look else where.

HD 555, then mod. Don't spend $30 more on a HD 595

They will not isolate sound well because they're open cans. If you're going to use them on a bus or listen to them in a quiet room (where others can't be disturbed), then both is not a good choice.

I believe you will like closed cans better.

Get the 555, the 595 is a bit more comfy to wear.

I have the HD555's and I tried wearing them on the bus for kicks one day and I can safely say that they're indoor headphones for sure. Once you crank the volume enough for you to clearly hear, so can half the people on the bus. They're also quite bulky for outside use. They're great for indoor use though.
