Grandma just gave me 4000 for college build me a computer. - Page 16

I'm surprised with all the people advocating for the 580's. He already has a 6970 which is a capable card, why not just build off that and go for a crossfire or even a quadfire and call it a day without effectively throwing out $400.

No offense, but I think spending all $4000 on one build is a bit foolish. You'll be able to build a top-of-the-line Sandy Bridge build for under $2000. Get software through MSDNAA once you get on campus like others have suggested.

With the rest of the money, I suggest you invest it. You should look into money market funds. These have never lost money in the history of their existences (don't get these confused with money market mutual funds, which have lost tons of money since their inception).

Wow, man I wish I had seen this post a week ago, I would have bought your current rig instead of the new build I am waiting on parts for. Thrasherht, that is sickening power you suggested. I thought I was crazy going with a single HD6790. That is the kind of PC build that I have wet dreams over. Though is that build you suggested going to leave change for the software? If he goes for Maya Autodesk 2011 that is 4 grand alone.

No offense, but people like you who just piss away money like it grows on trees really annoy me. You have no idea what the real world is like.
I think that is a little out of line. How someone else chooses to spend they're money regardless of the amount or how they received it should not effect YOU. No offense, but people like you that go out of they're way to put someone down because they have something you don't have really annoy me...

To the OP I am a complete noob with all of this. Probably a few steps back from where you are now lol. But after doing as much research as I possibly could and tons of help from the wonderful members of this site it seems 2K can get you everything you need.

Just my 02 but If I had 4k handed to me and wanted to spend it I would-

2k = pc
2k = home theater =) lol

Best of luck to you and hope you get what you want. Good luck in school!

Why do we have to build you a computer? Your grandma just gave you $4,000 of her medicare money-hire someone to do it.

Exactly, because everyone at OCN hates computers and everything that has to do with them.

I'm confused here. Is this thread about helping him build a computer, or is it about complaining.

I'm not sure...

If I were the OP I would hold onto my money until Bulldozer comes out. Your rig can handle anything you want to throw at it. Use those funds for beer during college, or girls.

I almost forgot why I don't visit OCN as much as before.
Thanks for reminding me and not reading the thread.
@ OP: Spend as little as it takes to get the job done, save the rest for later.
