I'm not sure...

If I were the OP I would hold onto my money until Bulldozer comes out. Your rig can handle anything you want to throw at it. Use those funds for beer during college, or girls.

.02
Or girls? You must not have any game at all when you have to spend money to get girls.

What the OP really needs to do is build a 980x rig with Tri-SLI 580's and tell his geek (lets face it, hes doing mathematical studies) friends the money that he didn't use that he can't run Crysis on it with an average framerate of over 60fps.

They'll be in such disbeleif, he'll make a fortune.

1. Build uber rig
2. Invite unsuspecting suckers/friends.
3. Bet it can't run Crysis
4. ????
5. Profit.

In your situation, I would spend maybe $2000 at most on the actual build (i7 2600K, 6970 CF) and then use around $1500 for a 30" monitor and a mechanical keyboard. Yes, if coding is important to you, you will benefit much more from a nice keyboard and a large monitor than some excessively powerful CPU.
