This IS overclock.net, meaning that people who can put the hardware to use and push it to its limits will. Not buy overpowered hardware and play some small game and a tiny bit of coding.

The ONLY time the SR2 is ever remotely even used to potential is when you are doing rendering, but other then that, it is just a big Epeen effect.

OP If you already have an i7 then stick with that and upgrade it. Don't waste your money on hardware you don't understand.

The SR2 is made for people that want to push the cpus and board to the limit. Hence super record in its name.

No, this is overclock.net, it's right there at the top, take a look.

My PC is more than capable of doing what I want it to and much more, I don't have to spend £4,000 to play a game of Left 4 Dead with friends.

You need money to live, impulse buys, life, general things. Parties, drinks, going to the movies. Having backup funds is never a bad idea, and always very good to have. I have a considerable sum in a high interest savings account, and it's helped me out many times, it's good to have a financial pillow.

My suggestion:
Don't spend it all on a PC.
Allocate ~$2000 at most to a PC (because really, you probably won't see that much more improvement spending more than that) and allocate the rest towards a nice vacation or something else you've been wanting. I'm suggesting this because it would seem like the smartest thing to do with a free $4000, if I needed a new PC.

This would be very nice. Could probably ditch one of the 580's.

Here I built you a $2600 rig:
It also includes a 120gb Corsair SSD and a Seasonic 850w PSU but it got cut off at the bottom.

How about this, I want you to go buy me a computer mouse for browsing the internet, my budget is 8000 dollars, ready go.

Does that mean you are going to find an 8000 dollar computer mouse? no, you are going to find the best computer mouse for the application I need. You aren't going to buy me a gaming mouse, you are going to buy me a mouse that has features that go towards browsing the internet.

so spending 4000 dollars on a 3d/movie rendering rig, is pointless when being used for somethign completely different.

People in florida don't buy snow mobiles, they buy 4 wheelers.

get my point. He needs a computer that will run his software the best it can. which means he needs a really fast quad core with a lot of ram and a good video card.

I say keep it below 1k for the tower.
Water cool it for silence. (crunching at full tilt and still being silent: )
Get a 6970 and 3 monitors.
You will learn soon enough, but be conservative now. (and I think that unless you upgrade in less then 3 years, buying mid range is better)
