[Handbrake] Why is it taking so long on my i7?

Hey guys, so this is my first time using handbrake. Im wanting to put dvd's on my PC so i can watch them. Well this is my first time using handbrake, and well im guessing im not setting something up right.

So i got the movie avatar in my D: and i set it up as the following to convert this disc so that i can watch it without the disc. Did i set something up wrong? Also isn't there a way i can get the res to 1080p or even 720p?

Also, why is this taking so dam long? It's been running for like 30 mins now and is not any further than this screen shot. I know it's not my hardware. I have 4.5gb's of ram free, and my cpu usage is at 2%...

Okay will try that out. Also what type of file should i be converting these too? They will only be for my PC and not transferred to my phone or ipod.

1080? 720? This is a dvd.

I agree that it shouldn't be like that, half an hour at default settings on an i7... probably would be more than half way done. What settings in the video tab?

Well the container doesn't really matter, said that, anything H.264/AAC would give you a great IQ/size.

about 1000kbps @23,976fps for video should give you a nice picture

downsample the audio to 44khz 2ch and 192kbps

Always select with best render quality and 2 pass render.

don't bother changing the res, as long as your player is not using nearest neighbor or bilinear the resizing should be fine.

Oh and never use the GPU assisted crap as its not faster and the PQ will be disappointing.
