Unlocking a AMD Phenom II X2 Callisto 545 3.0Ghz to Quad core

Thread Starter
I was wondering if anyone could help me go the best route to unlocking a AMD Phenom II X2 Callisto 545 3.0Ghz on a MSi 740GTM-P21 (MS-7302) mobo to Quad core. I know it's possible but since it's not a BE I have to Overclock the hard way so figuring unlocking the last 2 cores will be the hard way as well.

When I try to use ACC my system doesn't boot up, I guess I haven't tried just unlock cores in bios without ACC but i thought ACC was essential to Unlock cores option in Bios. Another note I cannot set my cpu core voltage in bios nor does it allow me to do a soft oc with cpu tweaker since that is all ratio multiplier settings.

Even trying to oc the cpu with the cpu frequency in the bios tends to blue screen me. wondering with this mobo if i should even spend then time or just wait. As I have a better mobo coming to me here in the next couple of days if I truly need it for the AMD Phenom II X2 Callisto 545 3.0Ghz processor I have. Also even if I cannot get at the 2 extra cores that are there what are people doing to get this to oc at optimal settings in bios?

I have the same problem with my 555 Black edition. (Don't really mind since I can use it as a dual-core without problems)
It can either be a motherboard problem or that your processor won't unlock since it has unstable cores.

That is what I am thinking but don't fully want to think that right now. What I am suspecting is bottleknecking due to the mobo itself. This mobo doesn't have a bios core voltage setting either to make overclocking either so I think I am running into errors oc'ing my proc with the frequency setting, with my old 7750 BE it was easy I would oc the proc from stock 2.7Ghz to 2.9Ghz bios stable load in then soft oc it with cpu tweaker to 3.2Ghz as well as upping the voltage to 1.485 which ran stable but wasn't able to unlock the 7750 BE extra 2 cores. I am getting a new mobo this week a better MSi mobo that I have already seen unlock a phenom II 560 to a quad core and then oc to 4.3Ghz and I would be getting the OC cooler with it.

This is what I am upgrading to Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 heatsink/fan and also MSI 785GT-E63 mobo later this week.

A new mobo with voltage control should get you on track, luckily I got the X2 550BE so things went quite smoothly for me...I will say make sure you update the BIOS if it happens to be out of date. I was getting a massive amount of BSoD's which I thought were sue to an unstable clock yet I reset CMOS, update BIOS, and what do you know now I am working on a stable 3.7-3.9Ghz OC.

Anyways good luck with the better cooler and a proper mobo.

I definitely do NOT recommend unlocking to a 125W-consuming quad core on an MSI board with unheatsinked 4+1 power phase. Don't even think about it. You're asking for flame death.

Can you please elaborate a bit more?

Unlocked x2 should consume 125W
You all need to realize that what you're doing is dangerous.

Maybe just the board/chip combo, that's why i went with the 870-G45 cause it has a "unlock core" feature right there in the bios and i went with the C3 555BE 80watt chip, couple the low wattage with a hyper 212+ cooler my chip is golden, but yea trying to unlock cores with a dual core that's 125watt will be a bad idea, the heat from that thing would maybe kill your board.

Don't do it, just go for clock speed, raise the FSB (since u don't have a BE chip) and test with occt or similar stress test and see how far you can go with stock volts, then if that is not enough (trust me no high number is ever enough I'm @ 4.5 and thats not good enough) just increase the voltage until the overclock is stable for about 6-8hours...leave it on while you sleep

Are you talking about in the bios, i believe it's a power setting called phase control... is that what you are talking about? If so I have that disabled, or should it be enabled, also I have AMD Cool'n'Quiet disabled and spread spectrum disabled as well.
