570 + Physx

Thread Starter
Hey guys so here's my road block.

I own a ASUS P7P55D-e Pro motherboard that has either a PCI-e 16x slot or dual PCI-e 8x slots. I currently have a 570GTX in the 16x while the remaining slot is left empty. I would like to place a 9800GT in the second slot to drive additional monitors and mainly run as a Physx card, but in doing so will limit the slot my 570GTX is in to 8x. (I think)

What do you think I should do? Is the Physx benefit (if any) of the 9800GT worth anything? Is the 16x lane for my 570GTX worth more? Could having a 9800GT as a Physx card actually hamper performance? Thanks a bunch guys.

switching to an 8x slot would not hurt your gaming that much if at all.

Dropping your 1st slot to 8x PCI-Ex won't affect your performance more than *maybe* a couple %.

Having a PhysX card is great for games that actually support hardware physX, but is basically useless otherwise (except for running other monitors).

And no, using a 9800GT for physX wouldn't slow down your perf vs. using the 570 for physX + rendering. Quite the opposite. If we were talking about a crappy old 8500GT that'd be different, but a 9800GT is a great physX card.

Not to steal this thread, but anyone know what the gains of a physx card are in metro 2033?

When i had gtx 460 hawk x2 in SLI, i tested as SLI and 1 as dedicated physx, for metro 2033, better to keep it as SLI and for mafia 2 you'll definitely benefit from dedicating one of your SLI card to physx .

Actually I have a 460 in a rig I am not using for 3d apps and was thinking about trying it out, but then I would need to get some cheap garbage for that rig

Ugg after reading a bit more I don't think I'm gonna benefit in any way from having a dedicated Physx card. I guess I'll keep my 16x pci-e and better heat/power management..

However, I am going to try to OC my baby 570. Thanks guys.
