Can ubuntu be installed on a raid0 set up?

I've been searching google but no luck...there seems to be problems for people who try installing it on a raid set up. Anyone knows if this is doable?

Honestly a better place for this would've been the Ubuntu Forums, but I don't see why not. I could be wrong, but IDK.

did you use a special program to install it, or just went with the iso and everything worked fine?

Yes, but you need to use the alternate install CD.

This will walk you through it.

You can actually make a raid1 (hardware) for the /boot if you want. I would also make /boot ext2, I didn't finish the tutorial cause once I found out he didn't do raid0 for /boot I had my answer. As of now no bootloader can run fakeraid/raid0/software raid. It's the same reason that the bios can't read it either, this probably won't ever change. At least it won't change for a while.

No, just burned the cd and inserted. IDK what that other dude needed to make it work. Ubuntu, like most linux distros, come with generic open source drivers to work with raid and other hardware technologies. It sees the volume as a single drive because the raid card makes it look that way.

On each install, I just configured the raid via SAS bios, and then restarted and installed. Neither computer has had any problems as of yet.

If you configured raid in the bios it's most likely a hardware raid and not a software raid. The video is for fakeraid, which can't be used for the whole drive because then grub won't boot. This is why he creates a small partition for /boot that isn't in the raid (it can be in a hardware raid).

[edit] The wiki does have a raid0 setup for dmraid, it's a little nutty to install though.
