Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. - Page 3

Thread Starter
I really hope it IS just a BIOS incompatibility. The fan still spins, if that means anything. I'm going to try using my cousin's crossfire motherboard on monday, hopefully atiflash will see the card in there. Can anyone actually confirm for me whether using integrated graphics (set in BIOS and with the card plugged in) disables the PCI-E slot? If that's true, using anything now won't work, as there's no way to access the card. Will try that -v command, that sounds like it would be useful, as when I flashed it, atiflash DID say it was successful. If that doesn't work, it's off to the computer shop, but I don't have the receipt OR warranty, because I bought it on ebay. Hope the crossfire board can give me access!

The card shouldn't be disabled when using integrated graphics, but that would definitely depend on the motherboard and perhaps BIOS settings.

Your powercolor card is a non-reference design, it will work perfectly fine once you flash the correct bios. You cannot brick a card by flashing the bios, just make it inoperable. In case you don't have the old bios saved, techpowerup has it http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/7...24.100126.html

Card is probably fine, just looks like it needs a BIOS.

Should not be difficult to reflash it with your backup. If you don't have a backup, it should not be hard to find a BIOS image from someplace like mvktech or techpowerup.

Others have already explained how to use atiflash.

I've killed plenty of GPU BIOSes before and I can always fix them. I just go to my box of PCI video cards, stick one in my system, then boot up and use atiflash or nvflash.

PCI GPUs have their uses!! I keep telling people and they laugh at me.

OP don't give up on that 5850 just yet. Tons of helpful members (and info) in this thread. I'm sure you can get things sorted out... Just be patient. And maybe start looking around for an old junker PCI graphics card for exactly these types of scenarios.
