Skype and insane usage

Thread Starter
So, a few days ago I got the "upgraded" skype. Ever since then, it eats a whole core (shown as 50% usage in taskmanager for skype.exe), and takes up ~100MB of RAM. It never did this before, and is really annoying. I tried reinstalling and it still does it. It does it all the time, even when just idle.

Hmm, just stopped responding as I typed this. When it restarted it is back to normal CPU usage, but still takes up ~100MB of RAM.

Any ideas on what is happening or how to fix it?

I just opened up Skype and it's taking up 92,712 KB of ram. I have like 5 contacts. I'm guessing Ram usage is normal

Hmm, guess I just never looked at RAM usage. Just seemed odd that such a seemingly simple program would need that huge amount of ram. I mean, Steam only uses ~73 MB and does so much more! Is there something that skype does more than chat/voice/webcam that I am not aware of, like try to work out pi or something

It seems the CPU usage went away after the crash, but it had been doing it constantly for a few days even after several restarts. It wasn't just for calls, but even when it just sat idle in the background. I actually noticed because it made minecraft laggy and I had to disable it in order to play.

Well, it's back. Even tried reinstalling it and it still uses exactly 50% CPU (100% on one core). Anyone else find a solution? I can't really induce the crash I had last time, so I am not gonna rely on that fixing it.
